While the first time you find yourself face to face with multiple catalogs of thousands of the hottest apps and games, it's like being a kid let loose in a candy store, the initial euphoria quickly wanes.
Most of the job entails testing myriad apps, not necessarily those of interest, most far too unremarkable to merit the ink.
When you do stumble on a gem there is seldom time to really go deep. I seldom get to play or read for recreation since turning a sideline into a career.
But, the worst of all possible worlds is when you run into an app like Opuss. For me it is the rare assignment to cover an app that as a reader, writer and blogger I could really use.
I opened it eager to find the good - I've only been at this for a year I'm not that jaded yet - and find its primary function is just plain broken.
I was assigned this app by a tier one site and all I can say is great idea, but very poor execution. Which makes this a hard job.
As a human I want to applaud all efforts to bring literacy to iOS,nor any platform, but in the end I am a reviewer, not a fan and today's most exciting app, this one, is sadly a wash.
Here's hoping for an update soon!
