Time To Write

I don't think I'm alone in this... It is really hard to find time to write. I can jot down notes, draft something rough and come up with plenty of ideas but the time crafting something I'm proud of takes time. Time, I never seem to have enough of.

After work, I'm too tired or stressed to write. Sometimes, I need to spend quality time with my friends, family or husband. Keeping on top of the house work and taking care of myself seems to gobble up my day.

I need to do all those things but what I want to do is spend my time writing.

Does anyone else struggle with balancing life commitments with writing? Do you have any tips you can share?

I kind of know how you feel. Between Uni, having a social life and family I hardly have time to sit and write. I get ideas in my head but getting them on paper or on a computer it's almost impossible, so now I do it on my iphone. I have an app called one note, it's not the best but at least when I'm on the train or bus or just bored somewhere I can write a bit down and later email it to myself so I can look over it and add to it. I hope it helped :)

I like to write at night time. I know it sounds weird, but you get more ideas, and it's much quieter when everyone is asleep.

I have struggled to keep both things, I've tried but my mates must get annoyed with me just looking at my phone typing the whole time. Wish I could just sit and write all day but unfortunately I have other commitments. Thanks for your support also I really apr

Appreciate it #

@RDE I am a huge fan of One Note. It came free with my PC and I had to wait for it to be on the iPhone. I'll post some if the other mob apps I use. Was going to blog in it.

@Platypus when I was a teenager I wrote in bed and my mum used to complain about ink stains on the sheets - lol. My husband is too much of a distraction. Still a great tip - finding your writing space :)

@Stablish your welcome. It is tricky to find time but the best stories are written with a touch of truth so if you don't hang out with your mates you'll miss out on real life. Think of the time you spend with them as research and inspiration and note down ideas to come back to later. When your rich and famous you'll need your entourage ;)

@redfae, Thanks I would never forget my mates, I'm gonna bring as many people along with me. (-; I'm going to be writing my first song tonight hopefully will post it soon, hope you get some time to write, take care x (:

@Stablish thanks. I like fwd to you posting it. Hubby has got a cough so likely to be pandering to him - lol

@redfae lol well good luck with that then, hopefully he gets better soon so you can get back to writing. (-:

I use Evernote to jot down ideas, it's quite nice to use. I get carried away typing on my phone, usually end up writing rubbish. I'm much better with good old pen and paper! Regarding having the time to write, I never have time and its frustrating. I work too much, sleep too much and drink too much to find a quiet hour or two to write.

I see you eye to eye with you on this. Between work, music

and accidentally pressing publish, I have no time left at all! I try to find time where I can. Creativity can come and go, just remember that you don't have to find inspiration from things normally deemed 'acceptable' as being inspiring; I find delight in train journeys and drunken video gaming. J x

@Stablish thanks :)

@samkilbride88 I used Evernote for a bit but then had probs where it showed a summary of text but when I opened the note it was blank. Also had trouble categorising. But before the bugs, I really enjoyed it. May use it again and see if an update had fixed it :)

@Zoodark yeah, i enjoy anime and MMORPG and get a lot of inspiration from them. I also enjoy taking up the opportunity to try new things and meet new people, even of its a one off.

@Zoodark I also forgot to say that no writing is rubbish. People who suffer writers block often worry too much about the quality of what they've written but people who write novels get the words out and edit it up to standard later. Everyone I've met who's published a novel say there are chapters they've scrapped and shameful first drafts they'll never share but the difference is they had something to work with. Get it out and then work on it :)

@redfae Have you tried the app " A Novel Idea "? It's got good reviews.

@TheCodsPollocks yeah, I have but the responses of other players are slow that I get bored. It does encourage you to use words in a sentence I wouldn't usually consider and it's good to push your vocabulary :)
