20 September 2012
The freezing breeze
Runs its cold fingers up my back
Sending shivers through me
The night wishes to engulf me whole
And lose me in its bottomless pit
My heart pounding
And palms sweating
I run inside
Was someone out there
Or am I paranoid
A creaking upstairs
And I'm out of my trance
Is someone in here
Or is my mind imaginative tonight
I don't want to go check
But I must
Everything is pitch black
Except for a small lamp by the tv
Another creak comes to my left
Making me jump and yelp
Someone's here
I know it!
Adrenaline slowly starts to creep in
Making me breath slightly faster
My hands begin to shake a little
Walking over to the cabinet door in the hall
I grab my bat and flashlight
Another creak comes above me
I can hear the shuffling feet now
Saying a silent prayer
I slowly climb the stairs
Ready to swing and run
At the top I stop
Trying to calm myself
Before I start to jump at every noise
I put my ear next to the door
And listen
Nothing at this one
Creeping as quietly as I can
I move to the next one
Here I hear a soft mumbling
As I reach for the doorknob
It turns and the door is opened
Without thinking I swing and scream
Adrenaline fully pumping
I hit with all my might
Turning the light on
I see the creeper
My gosh! It's my brother
Who lays crippled on the floor
Gasping like a fish
