It was a girl, a girl like I'd never seen before. Was she new? I'd never even seen her eating at the restaurant, let alone work here. She noticed me staring and smiled, walking in my direction. Oh God.
"Hey," she smiled cutely, offering a hand. "My name's Hannah."
I took her small hand in mine and shook it. "I'm Jordan. Is this your first day?"
She nodded. "Mhm. After I graduated highschool, we moved here. I'm 18."
"Me too. My graduation's in a few weeks."
"Cool," she nodded. Crap, I could tell she's losing interest.
"I could,uh, show you the ropes around here?" I offered.
She laughed. "You're cute! Okay, deal."
I followed her inside, dazed.
Did a girl just call me cute?

After excusing myself to the restroom, I stood in front of the full length mirror, examining every detail about myself. I guess I looked good in black, but doesn't everyone? Black hair, short in general but with longer bangs. I had paler skin and green eyes. I had long arms and legs, mainly because I was tall, 6'2". And I was kind of scrawny. I examined everything from myself in general to the Erickson's Diner name tag pinned to my chest. What exactly was there to like? I sighed and walked out.
"Ready for lunch?" Hannah chirped.
"Hmm?" I sounded dazed. "Oh, Hannah. Yeah, I'm ready."
We walked across the street to a small joint that always had a live band. "Once a bar fight started next door to here," I told Hannah.
"Oh God! Really?" she exclaimed."
"Yeah! Two guys burst through the window. See," I pointed out several cracks with black stuff on it. "That's where it happened."
"It looks cool though, like stained glass." she observed. I nodded and we stepped inside.
"Hey," she turned to me. "Can I say something?"
