He woke as he always did, with a start. No matter how long he had been here he could never get used to the brightness.
His white windowless cell had been his home for longer than he could remember. There was no day or night out here, no time, no way of judging it either. It was only ever lights on or lights off.
The frosted panel which took up most of one wall and was clearly one way glass, allowed him to make out the thin shadowy figure that watched him for a moment each time he woke up.
