Suffering toil in life often gives us a goal, especially when we see an end to the work. This motivates us to get the job done so we can crack on with what we're passionate about. Doesn't always work like this however...
The hatred for somethings is so great, that when we're forced to do them it confuses our mind to think we want other things more than we actually do. When the weight of hardship is taken off our shoulders, in some cases, so is the desire to do something you're passionate about.
