STALLED

On a dark, deserted back
road
That's where my story is
first told
Traveling, but lost on a
map
That's where my car hit a
mishap

My check engine light
came on
" Now, what the hell could
be wrong?"
I stopped the car and
popped the hood,
But to me, everything
looked good.

Hoses and liquids all
seemed tight.
Why won't this silly car
run right?

I'd half a mind to shoot it
dead
Had it been a hurt
thoroughbred
But no, it's a mechanized
beast
That has me stranded
and peeved.

I called a friend on the
phone
But no answer at his home
It grew darker and I'm a
fright
That I'll have to be here all
night

I slammed the hood and
jumped inside
Who knows what the
darkness can hide.

The wind's moving like
shadows
My throat dry, hard to
swallow
In the dark, I saw eyes
glow red
As it grew close, so too, my
dread

I heard a scream full of
despair
T'was my own voice that
filled the air
No escape route was in my
sight
No way out to fly or fight

Cops found me by a full lit
moon
On my neck were two
puncture wounds.

They thought me dead, no
sign of pulse
Little suspecting, it was
false
I won't forget that
fateful night
Those cops were mine
from the first bite.
