CHAPTER 2

Both Temari and Damian's eyes widened at the kidnappers words. Fear choked her throat and refused for her legs to move. Temari, Protector of the Wood? Damian, Succesor of the Sea? What did the sinister man mean by that? She thought to herself.
Damian was the first to talk.
"What do you mean? What do you want with me and Temari?" he shouted, his voice cracking as he spoke.
The man laughed, pressing the glinting knife harder into the throat of the mayor. The crowd was in silent awe and shock as the man continued to send chuckles into the open space.
"What matters is your mayor. Turn yourselves over to me or face the consiquences that follow." he barked seriously, no longer laughing.
The crowd of townspeople murmured silently, giving glances between Tamari and the vile man whose face had turned hard as stone. Before Damian could say any more, the sky errupted into a fury, sending splashes of water and lightening on the commoners.
"I could burn the town into a crisp if you would like, or you could come and save everyone." he offered.
Tamari's face fell. There were so many people bound to be hurt if she didnt work up the courage to speak.
"i-i will go." she stuttered over the booming thunder. Damian turned to her with a look of desperation on his face. His eyes were locked on hers for a moment, but just a moment before a hand, quick as the lightening above her grasp her by the neck and she shot into the sky.
The horrible thrill of being lifted from the ground jerked her stomach into her throat. She tried swivling her head against the G force so she could see who grabbed her and discovered the person a mere figure of black clouds. It was shaped in a way that looked like a person, but just sculpted from a bizarre storm cloud. She saw the ground grow smaller and smaller before she couldnt see anything but colorless dots. They had climbed so high in the sky that they were above the clouds, showing the blue sky and harsh sunlight. Before she could grasp her feelings, the shadowy figure dropped lurching her body forward until they hit the cloud once more.
Instead of passing straight through it, the minion of the man sprinted onto of the thundering clouds. What was going on?
They had seemed to be running for ages (her senses long gone) before the man just stopped, and their bodies descended through the clouds like bombs. She couldnt control anything, and nothing but the sensation of falling was being comprehended in the teens brain. Before she could scream the ground came fast, like she was diving from a diving board and was about to hit the cement. She closed her eyes, ready for death.
Something occured to Temari in the split second she had before she hit the solid ground. The feeling of being alive and free. The feeling that comes from breathing air after swimming, or drinking water after a long run. The feeling of being important and useful and every feeling in between. Her life flooded before her like never before, opening her eyes as if for the first time.
She hadnt lived before then. Yes, theoretically she had, but not in her heart. She had felt the pain of being alone and afraid, dismissed like she didnt matter, and reclused in a world where surviving was key, even if it meant throwing your life down the drain. But for that moment of living, Temari's brain finally clicked as she ripped off the mask that hid her face all her life. She was finally ready to live. But it was a matter of if the ground would let her.
