Nightshade Part 9

I awoke in a dark room, lit only by small beeswax candles that smelt faintly of honey. The smoke was thick, soup like even and it made my throat burn, filling my lungs and mouth, dulling my senses. If I had been brought here to be murdered, they could kill me in an instant. My eyes were watering, my nose, ears and mouth were filled with smoke, making the world seem foggy and when I moved my limbs seemed to be made of lead. After what I had done, surely I was here to meet my fate? Something moved in the distance and I yelped, in a attempt to call for help. The figure spoke in a deep, husky voice;
"She's awake, Eliza. What should I do?"
"I'm not ready yet! Can't you see, Phillip! Burn some more candles, we can't tell her yet! It hasn't happened yet, it'll be fine!" A woman that I recognised as Isadora's mother shouted from what seemed to be another room. I heard the gentle flickering of flames and my instincts told me to succumb to the sweet smoke. Fighting a mental battle, I heaved myself off of the bed and flung myself across the tent, arms flailing wildly.
Phillip growled at me. I knew that growl. He was the wolf-man. But why wad he fighting against me? Using his knowledge of the local plants to make nightshade candles to kill me? I thought we had something, a connection, something in common. I thought I could trust him. I couldn't. Not now.
Screaming, I clawed at his face and suddenly felt sick. My stomach twisted and tied itself into complicated knots. The floor grew closer and my hands shrunk, nails into claws, clothes into fur, girl into wolf.
