As a boy I grew with love and joy
A mum was all I had
In a cosy flat filled with laughs and chat
A mum but no dad
She was always there nurturing with love and care
Luckiest boy in the land
I remember the day mum passed away
I cried as I held her hand
As I sat next to her, in pain she was curled
She said these words to me
'my love we have the best thing in the world
It's time to let me be free.
Remember all else is for naught
Be the greatest you can be
Never forget blood is all you've got
You and I son are family'
I learned about life and yearned for a wife
Someone to share my dream
At the age of twenty eight I found my soulmate
Perfect or so it seemed
We had a boy and a girl together they were my world
Nothing I wouldn't do
My wife strayed but still I stayed
My kids were my glue
I realised my soulmate's love was lost
Some day I would be free
I knew some things were worth the cost
I recalled mum's words to me
'Remember all else is for naught
Be the greatest you can be
Never forget blood is all you've got
You and I son are family'
It took some more years and lots more tears
To learn what mum meant
I came to know that lovers come and go
Families are heaven sent
She was never there to nurture or care
So I made my stand
I remember the day their mother ran away
They cried as I held their hand
I sat them down, my boy and girl
Repeated my mum's words to me
My loves, we have the best thing in the world
We have it all just us three.
Remember all else is for naught
We are the greatest we can be
We will never forget blood is all we have got
We have it all, we are family.
