In a Kingdom so well built and fair,
The streets filled and the dungeons bare.
Were the houses were made from the finest stone,
By hardy people, sweat, blood and bone.
Its markets filled with the richest goods,
Its finances never went backwards.
The guards so easily swayed by the sound of coin,
As were the sacred monks and priests of Eloign
Men of physic would make false remedies
Leading to all kinds of worldly calamities!
Nightshade dominated the gardens at most,
Usually the Daffodil would be the host.
But after one seed of the shade was planted beside
Most of the others withered and died.
The red river which flowed through the town,
Once a beautiful blue
But now a raddled brown,
Causing many illnesses and a frown.
The trees would sway away from the fray,
And the birds would fly far, far away.
At night when all chaste folk sleep,
Gallivant, dice wielders would reap.
Filling the inns and singing hard
Even the Captain would let down his guard
Behind a curtain he dwells till the morn,
Leaving him feeling torn and forlorn.
At court, if ever one was to be seen
Committing a crime against King and Queen,
The hall was riddled with malfeasance
The criminal thrown behind for obscure reasons.
As the king was very old and his mane gray,
His roar no longer a threat this day.
His arm which once reached the furthest corner,
Now rested by each passing mourner.
The Queen was young and rife with beauty,
Lamented little on her husbandβs duty.
Her bed surrounded by daisies from afar,
Inexperience will grant her no shooting star.
And so as the recalcitrant fires grow
There will be many hardships to follow.
As the only governor is silver and gold
He cannot warm a populace dying of cold.
