Chapter 12
Sightseeing
We cross the quiet road onto a bridge. Underneath us was a pool of fresh blue water. I wanted to jump in and sink in the cool liquid.
"Come on. I haven't got all day you know!" The old man said, seeing me staring at the clear water below.
We continued walked for more than 15 minutes. We passed a huge museum with statues and pictures of The Beatles. We saw the Albert Dock. A miniature statue of the titanic sinking. It was all beautiful. Then we arrived at a small park. We crossed the slides and swings. The monkey bars and the picnic tables.
Soon, we were walking up a steep hill.
"I didn't get to ask your name," I remarked shyly.
"Andrew. Andrew Carter. What's your name?" He asked.
"Jessica Peterson. Well it's actually Bentley."
"Why are you trying to find Sophie? I mean... She's only young. Where's your adopted family? Are you here on your own?"
"It's kind of a long story. But in short; I ran away because I don't like them. I want to live with Mum!"
"Who's that mut on the floor then?"
"That's a stray puppy I found on my way here from Manchester!" I stare at Rex. He had been so quiet since we had arrived here.
We got to a long street full of different types and colours of houses. Some pink. Some red. Some blue and orange. There was brown. And white. Not forgetting black.
"If I'm correct your Mum should be living up there!" Andrew pointed to a semi-detached house with a brown door and cream exteria walls. There was a stylish black Aston Martin parked outside.
Andrew took me up to the door.
"Jessica. I have to go and open up the store again! You are sure this is the house right?"
"Yep. This is Mum's home."
"It was nice meeting you."
"You too!" I replied.
I watched Andrew go back up the hill and then he was out of site.
My legs became loose, my head was spinning, I had a horrible headache, my whole body was shaking like jelly and worst of all my heart was trying to beat out of my skin.
I managed to pull my hand up and knock on the hard brown door.
I hear voices inside. But only one voice. Then there was another but much fainter than the first. There was footsteps coming nearer to the door.
I was terrified.
What if she didn't want me anymore?
What if she didn't recognise me?
It HAS been nearly 13 years now!
I could hear someone unlocking the door.
They were opening the door knob.
The world started to slow down. I think I'm about to faint.
