On the street such charming faces
Mascarade, a hidden plea
Covered up with airs and graces
Rouge and kohl, origami.
China dolls, so pale, so fragile
Stiff and rigid, made for play
To bring out joy, a moulded smile
Smashed to pieces day by day.
Painted origami faces
Paper-thin, so easily torn
In a world of sharp and nasty places
Shining out, inside forlorn.
So put on your origami faces
Don't sulk or cry, don't brood or pout,
Don said airs, your wiles, your graces
Don't let them in, keep the world out.
