Toybox Fairytale

In the old toybox
Lived many little things ,
An old doll of a sultan
With lots of golden rings,
A dinosaur, a spinning-top,
A bunch of bouncy balls
And an old jigsaw
Which got no love at all.
Pieces had gone missing see,
So she was of no use,
No-one wanted her no more,
It made her rather blue.
One day the tall toy soldier,
Dashing, charming hero,
Took pity on the jigsaw
In her time of woe.
Really he was repelled
By her crumpled, breaking box
And the fact she wasn't all there
And had really gone to pot,
But his mother always told him
To help those in need
And then folks will remember you
As most generous indeed.
So one day he approached her,
The ugly, lonely toy
Long forgotten by everyone
Both girl and boy.
'I have decided
You've suffered long enough
I've come to find the missing parts
And tidy you all up.'
So with sellotape and new cardboard
The box was all patched
And painted so the sun-faded
Colours all again matched.
They found almost every piece,
Bar one slippery little tyke
Who always ran away and hid
Down sofas and the like.
The other toys who had pitched in
Gave up the ghost again.
'I don't have time for this!'
'This is really lame.'
Only the faithful soldier
Carried on the search,
Hunting far and wide
To put and end to the jigsaw's hurt.
Eventually he came across
The Holy Puzzle Grail,
It had been hiding craftily
In an old pile of mail.
He brought it back and placed it in
The little hole it left
And all of a sudden something occurred
Which robbed him of his breath.
In golden glow and fairy dust
The dowdy jigsaw mess
Was magically transformed
Into a beautiful doll princess!
'My dear sir, you stood by me
Through the thick and thin.
Here's my hand, a token of gratitude
From me and from my kin.'
And so they were married
And there was happiness all around.
The moral of the story?
Never assume anyone is dead and down.
