If I Saw You Earlier

Chapter 14

My morning wasn't that good. I took a shower. Then walked to my bedroom. I choose a pair of blue shorts and a white t-shirt. I walked down stairs.

" where is Mark?". I haven't seen him in a long time.
" he is with John, I thought you knew". What was he doing there?
" no, I didn't. And how long has he been at john's house?". I had no idea what was going on.
" sweetie wake up, they are on a road trip. To LA".
" since when?"
" 2 days ago, want some breakfast?".
" no, I need to find James".
" honey, before you go. I need to know, is everything ok with James? Is he being nice to you?". She sounded like a mother how has been left out. Which she was. I rarely told her stuff.

I walked to the lake. I saw him there looking at the water. He wore a blue t- shirt and sand colored chinos.

" my brother is in LA, with John". I said as soon as I saw him. He hugged and gave me a fast kiss.
" hi to you too. I know". He said with a smile.
" you know? John is a demon and you didn't tell me he is with a demon". I worried about John blackmailing Mark. Just to know about me or James.

" we are going there too, if you want to find your brother". He said in a calm low voice. Ducks swam in the lake and the sun light made the water glitter.

" I have to pack my stuff-".
" not we as in me and you, we as in me and my friends. It's too dangerous for you".
" I know what LA means, the city of lost angels, but I need to find my brother. And I can't leave two people I care about fight a demon".

"I will talk to them, but after what happened earlier they might say no".
He said it with a disappointed voice. What have I done?

We walked along the lake and he tried to smile at me. But I couldn't stop thinking of what I have done earlier.

" can you tell me, what I did?".
" It is complicated, you see you might not believe me".
He said it with a smile. Not a comforting one, a teasing one.

" just tell me!". I said with a smile I couldn't hide.
" the man you married, he was a demon, but that was after I saw you. I was a human back then. You got pregnant with a baby. A baby of a demon. That is the reason why you can't go to heaven. You were a mother of a demon".

I didn't want to hear more. He called a friend and after he told them I knew a little of the huge secret they agreed. I will come with them as long as I keep a keep a low profile.

I came home, the house was empty. I found a note on the fridge, it said:
Going to Emma's, eat what ever you like, love mom.

Nice one, I thought. I walked to my room. Found my weekend bag and packed everything I needed. I took sweaters, a pair of pants. I even took a bottle of water and all the money I had in my wallet.

I walked out side looked at my home for the last time then went to the bank.
I took out every single penny. Afterwards I cut my credit card into pieces. Incase my parents decided to track my shopping. James promised me he had money.

Then a car stood in front of me, a car I knew.
