Chapter 3
Wordless Challenge
Logan kicked at a tombstone irritably. Behind him Emmet opened his mouth to warn him about ghosts but seemed to think better of it.
"I don't see why you're so angry. The Summers chick was totally flirting with you."
Logan scoffed, kicking the trunk of a nearby tree, "Flirting, that's rich. No, that bitch was fucking challenging me!"
Emmet scratched the back of his head, still following Logan closely and shooting glances at the graves, "Erm... What would she be challenging you about anyways? Because it wasn't like she was doing that to anyone else."
Logan didn't answer, pulling out a pack of cigarettes. "Whatever. Want one?" When Emmet shook his head he shrugged and pulled out a lighter, "Suit yourself." He took a long drag then let it out with a sigh, "I just don't trust that chick."
Emmet leaned against the tree and Logan sat on top of one of the taller grave markers. They sat in silence for a while, Emmet observing Logan and shooting suspicious glances at the graves and Logan lost in thought.
There was just something about her that rubbed him the wrong way and he couldn't pinpoint it.
Both boys looked up as the gate to the graveyard opened- well Emmet nearly jumped out of his skin, but that was beside the point.
It was a girl, probably younger, maybe a freshman, but other than her long bare legs, short shorts, and large green hoodie, not much could be said about her. The hood was pulled up and forward and Logan could only see the barest wisps of blonde hair.
Logan glanced at Emmet, flicking his cigarette. The slightly younger boy caught his glance and shrugged, "Should we say hello?"
"Maybe she's a lost spirit looking for a family member," Logan replied, rolling his eyes when Emmet shivered and gave him a glare. "Chill, I'm kidding. You can go all nice-guy on her if she comes over here. Anyways, how's 'Sandra? Jean said she was hanging out with you yesterday."
Emmet glanced at the girl- who seemed to be running her fingers over the engravings on one of the stones then turned to Logan. "After you went inside I left to see how she was." Here he glanced at Logan, "I didn't say anything about your reasons but I did try to comfort her."
Logan scoffed to himself and mumbled, "Comfort, yeah, with your tongue down her throat." Emmet colored slightly and coughed.
"Fancy seeing you here." Logan tensed his jaw. That was it, all it took was one sentence and he wanted to punch her lights out.
"What do you want Tiwa?" Now that he thought about it how had she gotten into the graveyard without him hearing her? He turned to face her with a scowl but she just gave him a seductive grin.
There it was again, that feeling of superiority, or expected subservience that she projected; it made him sick!
She opened her mouth to reply before being suddenly caught off guard by something behind them, "...It's... No mater. I'd better go anyways." Then with another glance behind them she was gone. Emmet raised an eyebrow.
"Now tell me that wasn't flirting." Logan snarled at him and he blinked, "What's with the knot in your panties?"
Logan wasn't listening though and turned around. The girl was still there, but now she was closer and was squatting down with her hands between her knees in front of another grave. The strangest part was, even though she seemed to be focusing intently on the stone he couldn't shake the feeling she was evaluating him thoroughly.
