Chapter 9
Rose -after asking Mary- decided to look around the house, it was beautifully decorated and had a large amount of rooms. The kitchen was themed black and white. The floor has while tiles, there was black work-surfaces, a silver tap, white cupboards, a white fridge, black pots and other decorations. Rose was quite surprised, she didn't expect a woman of Mary's age (127) to have a kitchen that looked so...modern!
Next she explored the living room, this was also quite modern. It had a creme carpet, red, leather sofas, white walls, a small black tv, a black tv stand, a chandelier and a wooden bookshelf, which held many books. The room also had a vase of lilies and other ornaments and decorations.
Rose soon found out that the whole house looked modern. There was a bathroom which was also themed black and white. It had black tiles, a white toilet, a white sink, a white shower and black decorations. One of the bedrooms had a white bed, with red covers, a wooden floor, white walls, white draws, a white wardrobe and red decorations. The other bedroom wasn't as modern. It has an old, wooden bed with floral covers, a floral armchair, a creme carpet, pale blue walls, an old wooden wardrobe and draws. There was dust on the wood and cobwebs hung from the ceiling. Rose was confused, why was this room older than the rest, why did this one have cobwebs and dust everywhere? The other rooms were dust free. Mary was a nice lady, she wouldn't mind questions being asked.
"Uh, Mary, I'd like to ask you about your house," Rose began as she skipped into the kitchen.
"Of course," Mary said.
"Well, it's beautiful. But why are some rooms really modern and one...older?" Rose asked.
"You and Mia think alike!" Mary chuckled.
Rose smiled. It made her feel better that she wasn't the only one who was curious about this.
"Well, dear, I am a memory-" Mary began, but Rose stopped her.
"Wait a second! How can I see you? I thought I had to see your dead body!"
"You two were the first ones to speak to me. That is another rule," Mary replied simply.
"Oh, carry on, sorry..." Rose murmured.
"Ok. I am a memory, so I can go through the old shed and explore the outside world. I like to see what other people are doing these days. I saw their houses and they all looked lovely and modern. So I styled my living room like theirs," Mary continued.
"I see. But the other room?" Rose asked.
"I liked to keep something like how it was when I was a child. Bring back memories. It's quite simple really dear."
"That's...sweet," Rose said dreamily.
"I suppose it is!" Mary chuckled.
"Now, what would you like for lunch?" Mary asked.
"I'll have whatever you have!" Rose exclaimed.
Mary nodded and got some food out of the cupboards, while whistling. Suddenly, a thought popped into Rose's head.
"Where do you get food from?" Rose asked, frowning.
"There is a shop about 10 minutes from my house," Mary said.
"Oh. I'm gonna go and find Mia, bye!" Rose called, running through the door.
"Bye dear!" Mary chuckled.
