When Ben was up and dressed he declared that he was going sightseeing. I was dressed, too, so I told him I would go with him. At first he was against the idea but I managed to convince him.
"I'm just going to look about!" He told me when he appeared out his bedroom.
"I'll come, too!"
"No, no! It's fine, you just stay here!"
"Hey! I'm not spending my whole holidays cooped up in a hotel room-"
"Calm down!"
"Ben! I am trying to make it up to you, I don't know how but I'm trying!"
"How is trailing around after me going to help?"
"I want to show you-… remember when we first got here?"
"Before you messed everything up, yeah!"
I rolled my eyes; he was like a broken record! "Remember how happy we were?"
"Yeah…" he answered with caution.
"Well, I want to remind you what it was like, us being together. When we were happy in each other's company!"
"Fine!" He grumbled.
We went to see the Eiffel Tower- which was nice enough. I was too busy trying to work out if Ben was having fun to actually enjoy it myself. I was pretty sure he was as he took lots of pictures! We then travelled in a taxi for the two and a half hour trip to Le Havre, near the coast. All we'd had to eat in Paris was an ice-cream so while we were there we went to Le Vénicia. The food was alright, I was, once again, too busy concentrating on Ben. We looked around Le Havre for ages so that it was seven o'clock by the time we got back to our hotel. We had decided, in the taxi, that we would go to the hotel restaurant for a late tea. I got into some fresh clothes and then went downstairs to join Ben. We spoke civilly, I was sure we were on the mend!
We returned to our room feeling full and sleepy. I went into the bedroom to get into my pyjamas and when I came out Ben was on the laptop.
"What are you looking at?" I asked him as I strolled over.
"I don't have to tell you everything! You certainly don't!" Now, I must admit that stung a bit.
"I was only asking!" I replied defensively. I peered over his shoulder at the screen, he didn't make any attempt to hide it. My heart sank. Ben was looking at houses… in Germany.
