Redcarian Relay

Up bright and early this morning
The torch was on its way
Passing through our seaside town
On the Olympic relay

Now to tell the truth I didn't think
It would really be that good
But I still went anyway
With all the neighbourhood

We arrived and found a spot
With a clear view of the place
Where the torch bearer would
Finally show her face

A couple of floats pattered down
Police bikers held out their hands
Giving kids hi-fives on the way
Waiting patiently we stand

It seems the remit for the police
Was to be as loud as they could
People lined the streets smiling
Like they never thought they would

For most it's just a gimmick
A governmentary flop
But I think that it was brilliant
To bring us out on top

Our torch runner was like us
Having a pretty good smile
A little old woman living her dream
Laughing all the while

She was unique, she circled round
Instead of running in a straight line
She wanted to show off as one of us
Having a really good time!

As northerners generally
We are always up for a party
Never mind its seven am
We only just getting started!

People living on the road
Where the torch had passed
Invited us into their gardens
For a picnic breakfast on the grass

What I love most is how it managed
To bring our community together
Because we are a cheerful bunch
Regardless of the weather!

I went to see the torch in Pickering today! Where did you see it?

Sounds great!!! I saw it in Liverpool πŸ˜„πŸ”₯✨

@mpallister24 @naaviie in Redcar, hence our very strange word 'Redcarian'. I knew no one would know what it meant 😝

In all fairness, I couldn't give a stuff about the torch, but I loved the way that everybody just got along and was really friendly with each other! 😊🌸

@IndiaSparrow OH! Hehe 😜
