Out of the Hitler Time is a fantastically written, very engaging trilogy of books by Judith Kerr, famous for her children's picture books, but not very well recognised for these books. It is a form of Autobiography, but told about another person called Anna. It tells of her childhood from Berlin to Switzerland to Paris (first book), her teenager years in London (second book) and her adulthood in London - but mainly a trip to Berlin - (third book).
It is a really great, subtly written story which is moving, funny and warming. The first book is definitely suitable for children, but by the third book it is a more adult story.
Highly recommend - five stars!
