'I think we should just be friends.' Josh concluded solemnly, not daring to look me in the eye. Silence seemed to fill the café for a moment. I blinked. Then digested the information.
He thinks we should just be friends! Despite my lack of experience, I'm pretty sure that meant he was dumping me. Had I not been so shocked, I might have wondered why, however all I could concentrate on was how my palms were finding gripping my cup difficult due to the sweat coating them, the coffee was suddenly too hot for my mouth and my face was becoming an unattractive shade of beetroot.
As he shuffled his feet under the café table I realised that he was probably waiting for me to say something. No words came to me, no more thoughts either. My head was empty. My heart was empty. I wanted to be alone, so I left.
