We lay in bed, the sheets pulled up to my shoulders so I could stay warm in the well air conditioned suite. On the floor lay my prom dress: the silk was ruffled and tossed down, making it seem shinier as the light bounced off its folds. Next to my dress was Nate's dinner jacket and bow tie, tossed nonchalantly onto the rich cream coloured carpet. I was wearing his white shirt, which was crisp against my bare skin. It had been cool once I'd put it on, but after hours of sleeping and talking with Nate in this bed, it had become warm and less crisp, it was comfortable in a way that I never imagined a shirt that didn't belong to me could be.
I rolled over, moving my head off his chest. He awoke at this movement, and his head rose off the pillows, the bones and muscles in his neck becoming more prominent as he looked up at me in a state of confusion and awe.
"You realise you should model men's shirts right?" he said sleepily.
"Thanks for that, are you saying I look like a man?" I said, laughing and walking across the room to brush my hair. The brushes were made of a dull gold, and I smoothed my hair with one, noticing that it was still wavy even after the whole evening. "You're always at your most witty early in the morning you know" I said, turning to smile at him.
"Thank you" he said, as he closed his eyes and his head sunk back into the pillow. I turned back around and started to moisturise my face, before hearing a muffled voice ask what time it was.
"About 9.30" I said, continuing with my moisturising.
"Should we be up then? What time does brunch start?" it replied from the pillows
"In about an hour" I replied, turning towards the wardrobe. I'd asked Rad to bring Nate and I a set of clothes each for today.
I opened the wardrobe and pulled out the cashmere sweater and sequinned skirt he'd left me. It was a beautiful combination, and that's what I secretly loved about Rad - he knew me so well.
I took off Nate's shirt, throwing it over his head to wake him up, as he'd drifted back to sleep again.
"Is this what it's going to be like when we live together?" I said to him, which made him laugh. I remembered everything that had happened last night, which he clearly didn't. We'd reached the bedroom and after talking about how much I was going to miss him this summer, he revealed his surprise.
He sat down on the bed, and I sat next to him. He put his arm around me, and he told me that after his family sold their property in the Hamptons, he'd bought it recently.
"Wasn't it really expensive?" I asked, slightly shocked.
"Yeah, but I want my baby to have the best things. Even though we'll be next door to your family the whole time, it'll just be me and you for the whole summer. That is, if you want to?"
"Move in together?" I asked, feeling the anticipation rising.
"Yeah, I guess" he muttered nervously. I put my hand onto his other cheek, and pulled his head round so he was facing me.
"There's nothing I'd love more" I said, kissing him once gently. That was when my dress hit the floor.
As I remembered the evenings events, I stepped into the ensuite bathroom, kissing Nate on the cheek as I went.
"I want you awake by the time I'm out" I shouted through "Your clothes are in the wardrobe".
I turned the shower on; it was the same as the one I had at home. There was a main jet of water, but around all the walls were smaller jets, which provided the best shower imaginable. As I finished shampooing my hair, and was running conditioner through my hair with my fingertips I heard the shower door open.
"I meant awake and getting dressed, not awake and in the shower with me" I shouted above the running water. There was no response though, and as I struggled to see through the room full of steam, I didn't see Jeremy step into the bathroom.
As I cleared my vision, I noticed a figure, shorter and weedier than Nate was.
"Hello? Who's there?" I shouted turning the shower off, getting out and throwing on a bathrobe as quickly as I possibly could.
"Nate?" I cried, in fright as I realised it really wasn't Nate in the bathroom with me.
There was no reply, so I moved across to the wall, so I could try and step around the figure and out into the bedroom where I would be protected by Nate.
"Nice try, but I can see you" an oddly high pitched but recognisable male voice cried out from the steam.
"Jeremy?" I asked, "What are you doing in here, get out!" pressing the button on the wall that activated the steam clearing fans.
As the smoke cleared, I saw him, stood in his tuxedo which was now dewy.
"What are you playing at?" I demanded again, "Nate?" I cried, even louder. I could hear a muffled response from inside the bedroom. "What have you done with him?" I demanded, stepping closer to Jeremy and trying to seem as threatening as I possibly could.
"I was told to keep you in here whilst Miss Isabelle has her way with your boyfriend" Jeremy replied, hissing his s's like a snake would, sharp and cunning.
"He won't let her do anything, but I knew this had something to do with her" I replied, maintaining a threateningly deep level of eye contact with him. I'd learnt to threaten with my eyes when my father taught me; he always told me that you can portray any emotion with a look, and he was right. I saw Jeremy flinch and step backwards towards the door.
"You're not getting past" he said.
"Oh really?" I said, pulling on the cord of the bathrobe, tempting him closer to me. I knew Nate wouldn't be impressed with my way of escaping, but I didn't care. The thought that she was all over my boyfriend was too much to bear right now.
He reached his hand out towards me, and I quickly brought my knee up to his stomach, which wasn't as high as one would imagine, as he was on the shorter side of 5'4".
I pushed for the door whilst he was down, being careful to tighten the cord on my gown back up, and when I broke out into the room, I saw Nate, lying on the bed with part of my ripped prom dress in his mouth, with other parts tying his arms and legs to the bed.
"What are you doing?" I cried, moving towards Nate, and pulling the gag out of his mouth. As I did so, his eyes went wide in warning, and as I pulled the material from his mouth, I only heard the word "Watch" coming from his flushed lips before everything went black around me, and I plunged into a never ending hole, shrouded with darkness.
