-TIFFANY-
At 1.30 I was ready to leave, pacing around the vicinity of the front door nervously. What was going to happen? Would I need to be more made up than this? I looked again at my face in the mirror that was in the living area, next to the front door.
I flicked a few stray hairs off my face, and exhaled, before practising my smile. After wiping a finger over my nude lipstick, I rubbed by lips together, equally spreading the soft, cushioning mixture. I then smiled again, finally agreeing that my mouth looked as perfect as I could make it. My eyes were next up for the slaughtering, and as I moved closer in to the mirror, my eyes not only became larger, but they also looked more imperfect. I realised how uneven they were: my mascara was heavier on my left eye than my right, and the eyeshadow had slipped down a little on my right.
"Nate?" I called "Can you bring my loose powder and my mascara please?"
Within seconds he was behind me, holding my makeup bag.
"I brought it down earlier as I knew we'd reach this stage! But unfortunately I don't know what loose powder is, so here's your whole makeup bag" he said as he passed it to me.
"This is loose powder" I said, holding it up to him "You can tell, because it's powder, and it's loose" I said, laughing and hugging him.
"Thank you for that invaluable makeup lesson" he said, kissing my forehead. "I still think you look pretty perfect though" he said, as I pulled away and started to sweep the mascara wand over my eyes, hoping for a dramatic transformation. Unfortunately, I didn't turn into a model, but my eyes certainly looked more even, and with a sweep of powder over my T-Zone, I decided not to overwork my appearance.
"Shall we go?" I said, stepping out into the kitchen where Nate was sat. He had a towel slung over one shoulder, as he was going to swim once he'd dropped me off at my parent's house.
"Sure" he said, taking a final sip from his tall pink lemonade and reaching for my hand. "Good luck baby" he said, making his way across the house and shutting and locking the front door "Not that you'll need it of course! Everyone at Vogue will be mad not to love you!" he said, kissing me on the lips.
"Thank you. Have a good swim too, I know it's been a while."
"Yeah, it doesn't matter though. I've got to spend more time with you which is all I could ever want"
"Thank you" I said, kissing him again.
We walked in silence for the rest of the way; hand in hand. When we reached the front porch of the grand mansion, I leaned up to kiss Nate, and he kissed me back. It felt like we had been there forever kissing, and we wee finally disturbed by my mother opening the door.
"I thought I heard you" she said, rather disapprovingly. I wiped my lips before greeting my stoney faced mother.
"You'd better come inside, they're already here" she replied, already moving off without acknowledging Nate.
"Okay sure" I said, kissing Nate quickly again, before literally dragging myself inside, constantly looking back to see him smiling at me.
"I love you" we both mouthed to each other, as the door was shut by the butler.
"Mimi, this is Tiffany, my daughter; Tiffany darling, this is Mimi, she works at Vogue and will be conducting the interviews and overseeing the photography. You don't know where Mollie is do you? Her grandmother's supposed to be here too" my mother said, looking around the room as if they were hiding behind one of the statues. I raised my eyebrows and shrugged this off: it was my mother after all.
"I'll text her if you want" I said, pulling out my white iPhone from my clutch bag.
"Outside please!" she said, shooing me out into the courtyard.
"Can we have a chat about photographs and settings by the way Tiffany?" Mimi asked, following me outside.
"Sure, what were you thinking?" I replied, closing the French glass doors behind me.
"Well, I couldn't help but notice that rather handsome man outside who brought you here, and I was thinking about doing a feature with the both of you perhaps. The only thing I'm worried about is your mother; I couldn't help but get the feeling she hadn't really warmed to him yet..."
"That's because we very recently moved in together, just a few houses down the road, but it was a bit of a shock for her! But I'm sure he'd love to, when were you thinking?"
"Well any time really! I'm in the Hamptons until next weekend, and it'll probably take no longer than a day so call me and we'll arrange something!" she said, handing me a business card.
"Sure" I said, smiling, as she headed back indoors. I texted Mollie about her whereabouts and she told me she'd be here in about 10 minutes. As it was only 1.50pm, I decided to let her off and go back inside.
"10 minutes" I said to my mother, who was lounging on her velvet chaise longue in the corner. I sat next to Mimi on the leather couch, smiling at her as I did.
"Right! Let's begin!" she said, as Mollie walked in with a rather confident grandmother. I smiled over at both of them, and Mollie came and sat with me whilst her grandmother headed in the direction of my mother and the rest of the men and women.
"Right, first of all I'd like to introduce our photographers, we've got Nigel and Vic--" Mimi began before I interrupted her.
"Victoria?" I asked, shocked to the core.
