I stumble through the dark,
Causelessly, aimlessly,
Without purpose or reason,
Without a light to lead my way.
I see a glow in the darkness,
A candle in the wind,
A light at the end of the tunnel,
Something to live for.
I walk closer and closer,
The fire burns brighter,
Blue and green,
And orange and amber.
I reach out to touch its pulsating heart,
To feel its warmth on my hand,
I reach out to touch it but it darts away,
Just outside my reach.
It shoots away into the distance,
Racing away from me,
I chase it through the thickening darkness,
Running and racing to grab it.
I stumble and fall,
And look up and see,
The bright light chasing away from me.
I sit in the darkness,
And I cry and I cry,
I can't find the light,
You have left me.
