Chapter 1:
FIRST CAR:
"Ivory! You come here now!" my mother called from down the stairs.
'Jesus,' I thought 'I've only just woke up and yet somehow I've already done something wrong!'
"Right! What is this?!" she growled, holding out a my dreadful report card. "You are not a stupid girl Ivory! Why have you got a D in Science? A D in Maths? And a D- in Geography?!" she raised her voice at me, stabbing the report with her finger at every grade.
'Crap!' I thought again 'Should've listened more in class!'
"I-I uh..I don't know mom, I'm just..er..not very good at stuff..." I bowed my head in shame, waiting for her to shout again. Instead, she wrapped her arm around my skinny waist and hugged me tight. "Oh Ivo-" (that's my nickname by the way) "..I don't know why I shouted like that. I'm sorry, just please try harder in school, we don't want to have to move again, do we?"
I shook my head and began to remember how much I've moved in my life. From LA to London to Kenya to Sydney to Rio- the list goes on. My mom, Elle, always made me and my older brother, Justin, move to different countries, because of what she liked to call 'difficulties' but I don't think she liked the school we went to. I am seventeen and all I want to do is get some settled friends and a great boyfriend, that's never going to happen by the look of my life so far, and Justin just wants to graduate school and get a job.
"Ivo?" my brother called from the living room "Well, I'm nearly nineteen and, well. I've been saving up since I was around fourteen for a great car and all I've got is my rubbish one. So, I have enough now, and I was just wondering...would you like my old-" Before he could fully finish, I jumped and squealed with joy as I hugged him, took the keys and headed to the garage. It wasn't anything amazing, but I've had my license for nearly two years and have never had a car! It was so awesome to have one of my own! I ran back inside, pulled a jacket over my shoulders, re-brushed my fiery red hair (yes, natural) and grabbed my purse, then ran back to my car. 'Let's go clean up this baby,' my thoughts rung into my head as I the ignition on.
"Right, what can I do for you ma'am?" a tall, muscular, teenage boy asked me without looking up from cleaning his hands on an old cloth. He was good looking, however just not my type.
"Hi! Well, it's me first car and I just want to do it up a bit," I said. He gazed up at me and examined my face with it's fierce green eyes and long, dark eyelashes.
"Of course, anything for a pretty lady. So, are you sixteen then? I mean, because it's your first car..." he flirted.
"No, seventeen, nearly eighteen, just never had a car before," I sighed.
"Oh, okay then. What would you like then?"
"I'm not sure, a re-paint, the interior redone, new tyres, better engine. Stuff like that."
"Okay, by the sounds of things, that will be around one hundred bucks. Although, because you're so beautiful and nice, I'll give it to you for sixty," he tried to hook me on. I chuckled at his compliment and soon tutted him.
"Too much charm, but I'll take the kind offer thank you!"
"Alright, you can come back in around two hours," he smiled, looking satisfied.
"Bye for now," I waved.
'Right, two hours to shop!' I happily thought.
I walked down to the near by shopping avenue and walked into a vintage shop and brought my mum and new candle and holder. After that, I went into a mismatch shop and got Justin some cologne and a square of leather that had 'Best Brother' pinpointed onto it, to say thanks for the car. Now I was hungry, as it was 1:00 pm and I hadn't even had breakfast or lunch, so I decided to go into 'Splendour' the most popular and preppy coffee joint in town, where all the teenagers hung out most of the day. Listening to music, hiring out the staff's roller skates, eating, drinking (not alcohol, just saying) and really just having fun, while staying out of trouble. I saw a kid in my school who was a year below me, Violet, her name was. And them I saw a guy, again from my school, but in the year above me. His name was Fernando, so annoyingly good looking, but again, I wouldn't date him. Anyway, back to what I should be talking about...
"Hey, Ivo! Come here! There's a seat next to Louise!" called out Fernando, he was quite a nice person as well.
"Hi guys, how you doing?" I asked. They all admitted they were fine and them got on with their 'stuff'.
"Let's go sit down there Ivo," said Louise, she was Fernando's girlfriend. I nodded my head and obediently followed her to some sofas down by the front. "You hungry? I am, let's order some food."
"Okay, I'll have a coffee and a ham sandwich," I decided.
"Sounds good," agreed Louise "Over here Jenny please-" straight away, a pretty, blondie that looked like Lou, came rolling down on her roller skates.
"Hello Lou, and I guess you're not a regular here? Not one of the groups that turn up everyday?" she giggled.
"No ma'am, my name is Ivory," I muttered.
"Ma'am! Oh honey that's sweet! But I'm only sixteen!" Jenny laughed, pulling out her notepad and pen from her apron pocket.
"Anyway..." Louise began "Can we have two coffees and two ham tosties with a big muffin please?"
"Sure thing gals! In a bit!"
I smiled as she left, she was one boisterous girl!
"Who was the muffin for?" I randomly questioned.
"Us, I'm going to half it do we can share."
I nodded then checked the time, it's okay, got forty-five minutes left! Then...I GET MY NEW AND REFRESHED CAR!!!!!...cough sorry about that, got too excited there....er...anyhow...
"How long have you and Fernando been dating then?!"
"Oh," she giggled uncontrollably with joy "for a while, around six months, it's getting a bit more serious now I suppose."
"How serious? You're not going to..do..'it' are you?"
"WHAT? No! Not yet anyway! Way way way too young!" Lou loudly boomed.
"Good, I was going to say you're a bit young. Don't get to worried, Fernando isn't my type, of you know what I mean?" I sighed.
"Yeah. I guess you'll be on the move soon, huh?"
I sighed again and began to explain my suspicion of us moving again.
"Oh right, I understand," she sighed, a mouthful of cake.
"Yeah, don't worry. I won't be offended if you're not sad."
"What?! 'Not sad' ? Ivory, honey! You've been a great friend to me!" Lou exclaimed.
"Thanks, and ditto to that," I smiled, she grinned back and we both ate our food and drank our drinks until I told her I best be off and started to walk back for my car.
"Hi!" I greeted the car guy.
"Oh, hello! Well, it's done! You wanna see?" he offered. I nodded excitedly and tagged along behind him, happily grinning.
"Here it is! I've been working hard on it!" said the boy, grabbing the cloth that hung over my car.
"Yowza!" I exclaimed, staring at the shiny, red paint, the fully black inside, the perfectly new engine and it's new convertible roof. "It's..it's amazing! Thanks so extremely much!" I giggled, getting out my purse. Reaching in for eighty dollars (yup, twenty for a tip)
"No malady, I can't take tips," he denied.
"It's the least I can do, here, please take it."
He reluctantly nodded, accepted my offer then handed my keys over back to me.
"Thanks again!" I said, as my now quieter engine turned on.
"Any time lady, any time," I faintly heard him mumble to himself. Aww, feel a bit bad! Should've given him a hug or something! Oh well, I've got my pimped up car and very grateful for it as I cruised on home...
