Back in the day
There was some way
To be who I wanted
We could dance as we chanted.
We had choice, we were free
We were as happy as could be
No pain to be felt
Even when all the spring flowers would welt.
As we kneel, ruminate and pray
We contemplate life as it was; back in the day
When laughter was the norm
Before this inferno was born.
We all want what we can't have, but all we want is to live our lives another way,
Like we did back in the day.
