Can you keep a truthful secret,
In a box of lies?
Can you keep it padlock tight,
And hide from prying eyes?

Can you shield it from the world,
And can you hold it right?
Can you keep it in your grasp,
And safe throughout the night?

Will you crawl into your dreams,
Still holding tight the box?
And will you keep it from the spies,
That penetrate Fort Knox?

Will you lace it with your life,
And let it slip not once?
If you can keep these terms of mine,
I'll take it you're a dunce.

There's not a single word of mine,
That can be worth this much,
Except inside a world of shame,
Where secrets are worth such.

Within this world, we're all held tight,
Our secrets are our pain,
And, when they're spilled by lips we trust,
We'll never be the same.
