Moss Girl

Chapter 6

I wake up, in a dark box, lying flat on my back. I still feel slightly dazed, but most of the side effects of the sleeping gas (I presume that's what it was, anyway) have all but worn off by now.
I can feel something being pumped continually into my left arm. Since my eyes have already adjusted to the gloom, I try and sit up to have a look at my arm. Its burning, in a cold painful way I can't explain.
But I can't because I'm strapped down. I should have known they'd do something like this.
So I crane my neck and see a horrifying sight. My arm is cut, lengthways, and there is at least seven small tubes sticking out of it, a few pumping something into me, and the rest pumping something out.
Since its dark I can't see the colours, but I'm pretty sure the one being pumped out is my pale, silver-green blood. It smells like it. Moss Faeries' blood smells like damp wood.
I check my other arm, but that seems fine, as do my legs and feet.
A small crack appears at the top of the draw, it slides open and a man who looks a bit like Bernard picks it up and puts it on a different operating table, and Mr Gasloe is there again.
"Thanks" he says absent-mindedly to the helper.
He hums distractedly while he's preparing his instruments. He then picks up the orange gas, decides he doesn't need it, and instead grabs an electric blue powder, and sprinkles some over my arm. The burning pain stops immediately, and I breath a sigh of relief. But then my arm starts going numb, and floppy. I look up at the man, as he picks another powder, pale pink this time, and sprinkles that over the blue powder. Even though my arm is numb, I feel the tubes loosen, and stop pumping so fast. He pulls them out, and throws the ones that have an odd milky liquid in them that was pumping into my body into the bin, and the one with my blood in next to a big container, already full of silvery-green liquid, that the tube is connected to.
He then sews up my arm, quite painfully, using grey thread that shines, like my skin. I look at my arm properly now, and see that it is almost white it's so pale. Usually it's the colour of a dark rock. How much blood did they take out of me? And what were they pumping in?
Mr Gasloe turns round, and picks up something small, and sparkly. It's a long sleeved pink top, with sequins on.
"My child, Eve" he says "Is an only child, and we are miles away from anywhere, surrounded by forest, so she has no friends and has to be home schooled. You will play with her this afternoon, after lunch. I nod, and he hands me the pink top. I pull it over my usual skin tight, thin mossy green vest top, and he picks me up. I expect to be put back in the draw, but he carries me to a pink and purple room, so bright it almost blinds me.
He places me outside a large dolls house.
"Your new home" he says gruffly, then leaves.
I sit on a white plastic sofa and sigh. It's gonna be a long day.
