Though this is on about ninjas I feel that this is also true in all areas of life. Family and friends are one of the most important things in your life. By turning your back on your friend and abandoning them when they need you the most, is truly the worst thing you can do. In my eyes being friends with someone is an unspoken promise of locality, trust and kindness, so you'd be breaking that promise.
