Prologue

I jumped into the pool and begin doing the laps, I knew I had to work hard. I knew I had to put all my free time into it. There wasn’t enough seconds, minutes or even hours in a day. There wasn’t enough days in a week. There wasn’t enough weeks in a month. I knew I had to do this, I had to do this for my family. Well, what I had left of it. Everything lately had fallen apart lately. All I really needed was someone, someone to pull and fix it back together.

Training and going to school was hard, but I had to do it, it was my last year in school, and I couldn’t wait to finish it, and go to college. To focus on my swimming course. Where I could swim and train all day. That’s all I’ve ever wanted, ever since I was a kid. I used to tell my Mum that, everyday when I was a child, I still would. That would be if my family hasn’t of jetted off, moved away, without me. Without knowing a single word. How would you feel? Waking up in the morning, walking into your sisters room, walking into your parents room, just to find out they had gone. All I had was my grandmother, since the age of 14 she’s brought me up. My grandmother lives on the other side of Plymouth, so now, at the age of 18, I moved into my parents house. It didn’t feel like theirs any more anyway, it was… mine.

‘Maddy, Maddy’ I felt my friend Ailis who was my swimming partener whisper my name, desperate to get my attention, she even began kicking me slightly in the water.

‘What?’ I asked, bringing my head up from beneath the water.

‘Don’t look now.. but.. Tom Daley has been checking you out for past ten minutes…’ She told me. I felt myself turn a shade of red as she walked away from the water, as I turned around to be met by the cutest smile ever, and deep brown eyes that I could get lost in.

So let me tell you about my journey, a journey of love, finding yourself, living your dreams, being faced with your past, and competing in the London 2012 Olympic Games. The biggest moment of my life.
