The frosted grass cracked underfoot
As winter took hold on the night.
A lonely march of weathered boots
Left shadowed tracks in the night.
An open gash through the hills' heart
Topped by this windswept precipice;
Drawn to to the canyon's brink at dark,
My sorrow mirrored by solstice.
In summer's sun, you went away,
And when you left you took my joy,
My will to live, my loving days.
You even stole my darling boy.
There's one step left to end it all,
To finish off your cruel goodbyes:
My muscles lurch, an arcing fall,
The rock walls echoed with my cries.
I know now how little you're worth,
How wasted the love I surrendered.
In frozen flight, heaven meets earth,
And final payment is tendered.
A rock I flung, carved with your name;
The icy, cold stone of your heart.
Rid of the the past, spark a new flame.
From winter's nadir, a new start.
