Ghost Boy

Their eyes met across the room. As if it couldn't get any more cliche, the boy bowed and waved to the flushed, raven-haired girl. "For you, my dear."

The boy held out a single white rose, and tucked the stem between several loose strands of hair, grinning. He brushed his slender fingers against the soft, delicate petals and tilted the girl's beautiful face up to his. She now blushed furiously under her perfect, ivory skin and her lips turned up to form a sheepish grin rather matching the older boy's.

Their lips were centimetres away from each other's, and the remaining sparks between them jumped the gap, pulling their bodies closer. Their fingers intertwined and the figures connected, fitting perfectly against each other. The kiss was soft and sweet, but the edges of the scene were blurring as the girl was tugged from the older boy...

She could hear a high pitched beeping, piercing her ears and making her dive under her covers once again. Wait, covers?

"Alright, ALRIGHT!" yelled Lauren. She scowled at the alarm clock, muttering. "Damn thing, never thinks about anyone else but- AARGH!" Blinding sunlight streamed through the window as the curtains were flung apart.

"Whaa?" Lauren glimpsed her mother beaming at her from the foot of her bed and groaned loudly. "Why do mornings exist again?" Her mum laughed cheerfully and yanked the covers off the shivering girl underneath. "It's freezing, do I have to go to school today, mum?" "Certainly," she said heartily, and left the room in a flourish.

"No... The squirrel... Why has it got a golf club- Ow!" Lauren was jerked awake for the second time in the day by a sharp jab in the ribs. The stony, narrowed eyes of her teacher, Ms Morgan, shot a suppressed look of loathing in Lauren's direction. "Lauren, if you find my class so repetitive, you obviously know the answer to question 8, part b?" Lauren blundered for the dog eared textbook in front of her. As her fingers stumbled across the pages, she fixed a trembling gaze on the question, cheeks burning. 'Work out the circumference of this circle, if the triangle it contains has a side length of 4cm.' Mouth gaping, she turned to the stout, toad-like creature. "I, I-er..." "I take it you don't know, Miss Edwards," she snapped with a reproachful glare; and shuffled back to the board. "Can anyone else tell me the answer?" A hand raised at the side of the class, and said "14.51cm." The voice startled Lauren and she swivelled around in her seat, trying to be discreet. The boy was leaning back in his chair, grinning widely and looking around at the class almost timidly. "Correct," said Ms Morgan in what she supposedly thought was a reassuring smile. She bared her teeth at the boy in a grimace, leaving him looking quite taken-aback. The boy had mainly dark brown hair, with the occasional streak of hazel-brown in his short fringe. He caught my eye with his own startlingly icy green ones and grinned sheepishly, motioning to his head and pointing to Ms Morgan. I laughed, but immediately regretted it after, as Ms Morgan said in a light voice, "Detention, Miss Edwards."
