I blinked; where did the light come from? I tipped my head towards the cave mouth and was greeted with warm splashes of sunlight streaming through the cracks in the rocks. The heat soothed my throbbing stomach and arm, and I basked in the soft dawn for a few minutes. Sighing, I rolled over, forgetting the needles. Yelping in agony as the sharp implements sunk further into my flesh, the scarlet pool forming around my limp body did not go unnoticed. "What the- Someone get a first aid kit! Yeah, I know, but look at her!" Feet pounded around my head as a sing-song voice cooed, "You okay there?" Puzzled at the question, I frowned, eyes screwed shut in pain and confusion. Muffled voices began to fade away as the medicine was pumped into my system. Almost instantly, I was under; sinking into the thick silence.

"Hey, Kit." Black-gold eyes shone in the darkness. "They look like cat's eyes," I mutter. "Huh?" The voice spoke again, sounding somewhat taken aback. "Cats," I say again, louder. The boy swam into my view, out of focus, but brow clearly furrowed. Perplexed, he asked, "Do you remember the day before last?" The question stumped me- How long had I been lying here? The silhouetted figure took my silence as me having lost the battle against the strong drugs willing my eyes to close, but I finally murmured, "Why am I here-" before my thoughts were shattered and I was gone again.

The next time I awoke, the medicine seemed to have finally worked its way out of my system. I fixed my unfocused gaze at the rocky, dripping, roof; not taking the risk of moving again. In the distance, I heard friendly talking and laughing. Every so often. There would be a yell or cheer as though someone had done something to entertain them. For some reason, the jeers and happy shouting made my stomach twist uncomfortably. After an hour of this, a panting, red faced girl put her face up to mine and grinned. "Hi!" she squealed, bounding up to the rock I was leaning on. "How are you?" I smiled. "I'm feeling much better," I said, head aching. "Aleks says you don't remember anything yet. That sucks, right?"

But I wasn't listening. In the corner of my eye, I had spotted something.
