Silence; I watch you from across the gallons of sea water between us.
You float across the pier,
The promenade seeming to separate us further as it curves and stretches.
"Stop," I breathe as you crawl
towards the edge, watching the water ripple violently at your feet.
You watch the sailing boats being thrown and tipped over the waves ferociously, cutting through the icy air like a summer kite.
Your neck snaps to attention at my voice, still warm from our embrace.
"Just stop."
I see you looking for something. Something on the masts and flags of the boats, anything on the wings and feathers of the seemingly unaffected kite that cruises the clouds.
'I wish you'd stare at me like that.'
The moon rises, not seeming to move but casting crimson shafts of light over you, the blood on your scarred, delicate feet glowing. I see you whisper something, only for it to be whipped up by the greedy air biting at you.
'I could do so much better than them, if you'd see through the glass. The wall that prevents my fingers from finding a place on that strand of hair that has always been begging to be tucked behind your ear.'
As you turn away from the horizon, I suddenly hear it. Your whisper. The flight ticket shimmers as you drop it onto the pier's wooden surface, the gale tossing it back up in front of your vacant eyes. The tears stream down my face, freezing immediately and tattooing jagged stripes into my skin. Closing my trembling fingers around the air, I catch your broken voice.
"Goodbye."
