Once upon a time When I was a young boy My first friend was Granville Who's company I would enjoy

Eighty and wise Young and naive What did we talk about? Could anyone perceive?

Knowledge and guidance A priceless present Experience of living Mild mannered and pleasant

A cellar, a clock A wedding dress on his bed Images of his past Some words were not said

An Opal fruit marking visits Now Starburts their name Storing money under floorboards Not playing the Bankers game

One day my friend was gone From my daily view Dearly missed by me And everyone he knew

A long lost Nephew Appeared on the scene Sadness in his eyes For the Uncle seldom seen

And to you my first Scholar Teacher and friend The love of our shared memories Is what I will send
