James woke up sweating and panting, tangled in his sheets. He shot up, staring around the dim light of his little room. His wrist burned. He winced, looking to see it was gauzed, little red spots coated it. He stood up, groaning. His muscles ached. He stumbled across the hall into the bathroom. He stared at his shining pale skin, coated in sweat. He ran a hand through hi damp, light, almost white blonde hair. His eyes a burning gold-green. He wandered back to his room, throwing on a t-shirt. He went down the stair and to the living room to see his mother. Rayne was curled up on the couch with a quilt, fast asleep. His mother smiled at him frailly. He stared at her, so crippled and delicate, her dark eyes looking hollow, no colour in her face, her dark hair was greying. He leaned in to kiss her forehead. "How are you feeling?" He asked. "I-" she winced, beginning to cough. James swallowed the ball in his throat, rubbing her back with one hand, reaching for a glass with the other, handing it to her. She winced, calming down. "I'm okay Jamie." She always called him that. "Drink this.. I'm just going to put Rayne in my room." He said gently, rising to get Rayne. "You screamed last night James." She said. He stopped in his tracks. "Mom you were dreaming." "No. Rayne was with you, trying to calm you down. You were screaming and kicking in your sleep. She couldn't wake you up." She said. James ran a hand through his hair. "Must've, been a bad dream. Don't worry mum." He said, picking up Rayne's delicate, sleeping body, carrying her to his bed. He looked at his alarm, it was seven thirty. he's shower and wake her up. He headed back down the stair. "So.. Mum.. Are you hungry?" He asked. He saw her eyes travel to his wrist. "What happened?!?" She asked. "I uh, had.. An accident. I'm okay. I'll go make you some oatmeal.. Kay?" She stared at him blankly. He did his usual routine through the kitchen, eating his frootloops while his mother's oatmeal heated up. He brought it over to her. "Thank you." She said. "Mum, I gotta shower still, and get Rayne ready for eight thirty, the nurse will be over in an hour." "You go get ready, don't worry." She said smiling. James hurried into the bathroom, slowly removing the gauze, wincing. His eyes widened to see the deep, nasty gash from the wolf's teeth. He jumped into the cold shower, his body began to cool and relax under the stream of cool water. He held his bad arm out of the shower, quickly washing with one hand, leaping out, drying off and slipping into jeans and a black hoody. He threw polysporin over the wound, wincing as he put fresh gauze over it. He opened the door, to see Rayne curled up, still asleep. She must've stayed up all night. He looked at the clock, fifteen minutes. He left her in his room to sleep. She needed to sleep.

He kissed her forehead, pulling the blankets over her. "You can sleep here.." He murmured. She opened her eyes slightly. "Mm?" "I'm going to school. You sleep." She nodded, her head crashed back onto the pillow. He hurried down the stairs, slipping his shoes on, putting his earbud in, shrugging his bag onto his back. "Bye mum." He said, heading off to school.

He blasted the music in his ears on his way, struggling to ignore the throbbing pain in his wrist. He jogged up the last street and over to the front of the school. He grit his teeth, jamming his hands into his pockets. He hated school. He was alone, other than Rayne. He was beat up, pocked on, and trampled on, but he didn't take anyone's crap, if it meant being a smart ass. The "dork", was his place around here. He put his head down, making his way through the crowd, to his locker. Half way there, he felt himself collide with the wall. He cursed, know where it came from. He turned around to see Aaron, his least favorite of all, and his two buddies, Randall, and Billy. Aaron slammed him against the wall. "I want none of that smart mouth James.. You hear me ?" "Look at you, saying full sentences. I'm impressed Aaron. What a big boy you are!" He said, grinning. What else can a guy do? He wasn't taking Aaron's crap. Aaron pressed him against the wall harder, his brown eyes frustrated. "What was that?" "I think we both know what I said smart ass." James said smirking, kneeing him in the crotch. One thing a dork shouldn't do around here, is sack the quarterback. James ran for it as the bell went. He, wasn't a regular dork though, he was known for the smart mouth and boldness. Only of it was asked for. He laughed seeing Aaron's buddies trying to pull moaning Aaron from getting trampled on.
