James's wrist grew worse throughout the day. He wandered to his locker, to find Aaron waiting. He cursed under his breath. "You listen bluethorn." He growled. "Listen to what?" Aaron's fingers curled tightly around James's throat. James clenched his teeth. Something burned inside him, an angry beast that was kept hidden, now coming out to play. James gripped his throat, turning, and thrusting into the wall across the hall. James felt hot, his blood was boiling. He picked Aaron up, punching him straight in the face. "I'm tired of your shit Aaron." He growled. Aaron just slipped down against the wall, eyes rolling back. James turned to see the principal standing there, arms crossed. "Both of you. My office." He demanded. James dug his nails into his palms, following the principal, Aaron stumbling behind them.
*** "You did what?" Rayne demanded, blue eyes furious. "Shhh.." James said, so his mother couldn't hear. "I don't know Ray. Something os wrong with me. I just lost it, and punched him out." "Yeah? For losing it, your suspended for five days." James stared at his feet. He felt her wrap around him. He held her close to him. "I know, things are rough. With mom.." She stared into his burning eyes, a tear rolled down his face. She struggled to smile, they froze, to hear James's mother coughing, worse than ever. James rushed in the room, to see blood dripping from her mouth, tears running down her face. She heaved air. She struggled to speak. Rayne stood, frozen in the doorway. His mother reached out for him. Another tear streamed down his face. He knew what was happening. She wouldn't make it to the next morning. He picked her up, holding her tiny, delicate body in his arms. She was crying, touching his face with her little hands. "Shhh..." He whispered. Rayne slowly approached them, falling to her knees beside the couch. James looked out the window, the sun was setting. "As... Gentle..." She struggled. "Just... Like..." She coughed. James frowned. "Father.. He.. Was..." She heaved. "Good." James stared at her. She never spoke of his father. He died when he was a few months old. She looked at Rayne. "Take.. Care... Of.. My....." She struggled. "Boy.. He... Loves.. And.. Will pro...tect.. You." She sobbed. Rayne took her free hand, sobbing. She was more like her mother than her own off in rehab. She laid in James's arm, staring at the moon. Her eyes began to cloud over. "Love.. You.." She managed. She winced, as more blood came up. "Shhh...." James sobbed. Her body relaxed. She was going. She looked into his eyes for a moment, than went still. "She's gone." Rayne whispered. James laid her on the couch. He felt furious. Rayne stood up. "James? Where are you going?" He leaned against the counter, crying. "Hey.." She said. He looked at her. She moved in, he wrapped his arms around her tightly, his face in her hair. "It's alright.." She sobbed. "We're gonna be okay." She whispered, only sobbing harder. He breathed in her scent, struggling to calm down. "She mentioned your father." She said. James nodded. His wrist hurt like hell, Rayne read it in his face. "Let m-me changed it." She said shakily. He took his hand, heading to the bathroom. He sat on the floor, struggling to breathe. She crouched beside him. "Hey.. We're gonna get through this together okay?" He nodded. She unwrapped the gauze, revealing a swollen, mangled piece of flesh that was his wrist. "I need to clean this out." She said, reaching for the bottle of peroxide. Rayne had, healing hands. She always just knew what to do. "Ready?" He nodded. She poured the liquid over the wound. He cried out once as all the infectious liquids poured out. She wrapped a towel over it. "That wold really got you huh?" He nodded. Thousands of thoughts flowed through his head. His mother's corpse on the living room couch, the wolf, his father, his love for Rayne. Worse, his pain. He looked at the gash, the swelling went right down, it looked like a deep gash. She looked at him. "I love you." He said. It just slipped out of his mouth. Naturally. She smiled, cautiously moving in, and kissed him. When his lips met hers, he was relieved with warmth, and relief. His pain disappeared. Her lips were salty from tears. Their faces soaked in each other's tears. She smiled, tears running down her face. "I love you too James." She whispered. James smiled for a moment, but it quickly faded. A wave of sickness hit him. "What?" "I think.. I think I'm.." He could barely finish speaking. His muscles burned furiously. He felt himself fall over, his face in the cool tile. "James?" He couldn't speak. His body began to twist and turn in awkward directions, he heard himself scream. He vomited. Rayne screamed, backing out the door. She sat across the hall, in a little ball watching him through the doorway. His back arched, his bones shifted. White Fur sprouted everywhere, he burst out of his clothes. He screamed in agony as a human, which turned into a wolf howl. Wherever James was, he wasn't there anymore. A massive white wolf, with James's gold-green eyes stood in the bathroom, staring at Rayne through the doorway.
