Aubrey sat on the couch staring out the window. Her grandmother sat in her chair watching her. "So? How was school?" She asked, breaking the silence. "School was.. ok." She said. The thought of Derek flashed through her mind, her heart fluttered. "Any new friends?" Aubrey looked at her grandmother, Abigail. Brown eyes, tender wrinkled skin, grey hair yanked back into a bun. She lived in a tiny house with her, her father was a lunatic, in jail for murdering her mother five years ago, so her grandmother took her in. Derek's beautiful eyes flashed through her mind, she felt her mouth curl into a small smile. "Yes you did! Is it a boy?" "Well, uh... Kinda yeah.." Abigail giggled. "So, what's this one like?" "This one? Gram, I don't exactly have friends.." She said awkwardly. "Oh, just tell me." She said. "Well... He's in English. He's got dark hair, and these blue eyes... Their kinda.. Mesmerizing. He's.. Different." Aubrey said, feeling her face heat up. "He sounds very nice.. Bring him home sometime." She said. Aubrey sighed, staring out the window at the dark street. "I'm gonna head to bed. Goodnight Bree." "Goodnight." She said. Aubrey's mind raced at the thought of a friend. She was afraid. Afraid of hurting him. Aubrey had a strange ability, that only her mother knew of. She could move things with her mind. When she was angry, or upset, the room would shake, and things would fly. She kept herself hidden from the world, so she couldn't hurt it, and it couldn't hurt her. But she liked Derek, she wanted to let him in. She needed someone to talk to. She slowly drifted to sleep looking forward to english the next day.

*** Derek winced as her slowly sat in his seat waiting for Aubrey to arrive for english. His back burned, he filed his wings down. There she was, clutching her books, in a black long sleeved t-shirt and jeans, her hair in the same long brown curls. She smiled shyly, seeing him sitting in the seat beside hers. "Hey." Derek said, struggling to ignore the burning pain that shot down his spine as he turned to look at her. "Hi." "How are you?" He said awkwardly. "Fine you?" "Better now." He said, smirking. She laughed softly. "So, Aubrey.. I was going to ask if, you'd like to come home with me after school?" He said awkwardly. Derek hardly talked to girls, it was weird to him. She studied his for a moment, reading his eyes. She smiled. "Yeah.. I'd like that." Derek opened his book, smiling.
