The day breezed by, Derek met up with Aubrey at her locker with his books in his arm. Aubrey watched girls walk by him, giving them a strange look. "No backpack?" "Well.." "Right.. Sorry... I have space." Aubrey said, holding her bag open, Derek slipped his books inside, watching her shrug on her jacket. "So, what do you wanna do?" She asked. Derek yawned. Under the light, she noticed dark rings around his eyes. "Did you even sleep?" She asked. His closed his eyes for a moment, running a hand through his hair. "No.." "When did you get back?" She asked, closing her locker. "Two a.m.. Couldn't sleep... You're strange in your sleep..." "Okay.." She said, walking down the hall to the back door, unsure of how to react. "You look tired... Let's get back, get you some painkillers and sleep." Aubrey said, heading towards the short cut in the woods. Derek slipped his hands in his pockets, wincing at the burning pain that shot up his spine. They walked in silence, Aubrey drifted into her own world, Derek gritting his teeth as memories of his father's last seconds flashed through his mind, leaving him with a ball in his throat, and a bitter taste in his mouth. Eventually, they arrived at the house. "She's not here... Shopping, or bingo... Probably both, she'll be home late." Aubrey said, dropping her bag, heading to the medicine cabinet, dumping two Advil into her palm. Derek poured himself a glass of water, accepting the Advil. She lead him upstairs to her room. Slowly, he took his shirt off, sitting down on the edge of her bed. Aubrey moved behind him, she touched the bandages, his body tensed. "I should take them off." She said. His fingers dug into the edge of the mattress, he cursed under his breathe. "Okay, their off." Aubrey whispered. He turned to face her, his eyes looked tired. "Go to sleep. She said stroking his cheek. Without thinking, he slowly slipped his fingers under her chin, pulling her face to his, gently pressing his lips to hers. She leaned back onto the mattress, her heart raced as their bodies intertwined. She let him, she enjoyed the feeling of his warm body against hers. Slowly, he pulled himself off. "I'm sorry." He whispered. She smiled, satisfied, wrapping her arms around his neck. "Don't be."

*** Derek eventually fell asleep, Aubrey not long after, her face in his chest. "Aubrey?!?" A voice called from downstairs. Aubrey shot awake, Derek remained asleep. She looked back at him, smiling. Other than the gouges in his back, no, even the gouges were beautiful. He had a small smile, his dark hair ruffled adorably around his face. She quietly shut the door, dashing down the stairs. Her grandmother was in the doorway, her arms full of bags. "Help me put these away dear? Where's the boy?" "Sleeping... He had a rough night yesterday." She said retrieving the bags. "Ah.. How was school?" She asked, hanging her coat up. "Fine. Did you eat out?" "Yes." Abigail glanced at the clock, it was nine. "When we're finished here, I'm heading to bed. He can take the couch." She said, filling the freezer. "Okay." Aubrey said. The two finished, and headed upstairs, Aubrey slipped back into her room, smiling at sleeping Derek, curling up beside him, quickly falling asleep again.
