This is written by James Franco (his talents are apparently endless). Palo Alto offers a snap shot of life as teenager. It's quite gritty and almost uncomfortable to read in places. However, I think it's good to evoke strong feelings like that in a story, that usually means its written well and with feeling and realism. Franco creates several short stories but manages to link them and create a flow. Whilst it is not a book I would read again, it's a book I remember and I am glad I read it, it reminded how hard it is to be a teenager and I think Franco creates the different male personas wonderfully! It's only a short book and it's worth a read, but if you don't want realistic and you don't want gritty, this isn't the book for you :p
