21 December 2012
So here we sit, on arguably, the most anticipated day for 5,000 years. When I think of it like that - I don't know about you - but I feel rather blessed that my lifetime has timed itself so I'd live through it. People think of it as just another end of the world prediction; in all honesty you'd be desperately insane to even worry slightly that today would be the foreseen apocalypse. This prediction however is particularly fascinating because of the circumstances behind it. Someone hasn't just started scare-mongering because they find pun within the layout of the date. 5,000 years ago an ancient Mayan society in Mexico produced a calendar. This calendar finished on the 21st of December 2012, as I'm sure you're all aware. Why it finished on this day, we'll never know; perhaps they'd ran out of rock or they couldn't be bothered to do anymore. All we know is, when this pyramid where the Mayan calendar sits was discovered, are human eyes got a glimpse of what was perceived as our doom. If you think about basic psychology however, us humans do elaborate and exaggerate upon certain things in life for effect and reaction. This is what I feel happened when man saw the Mayan calendar.
