Okay, as some of you may know, I am a pianist and composer. My debut album - Quando Diciamo Addio - is coming out very soon. The title of this blog is the English Translation of the album title. I named it this for 2 reasons. 1: QDA was the name of the very first piece of music I composed that I class as a proper composition; & 2: the whole album is inspired by many sad goodbyes I've had to say in my life. Whether it be the moment when you said "goodbye" or remembering someone you never had chance to say a proper goodbye to, each song on the album is inspired by various angles of how one can say goodbye, some which people may not be fully aware of at first.

Since each song was inspired by real life events, I should now explain something which happened to me the other week which was so simple, yet actually shook me up to think about it. My Dad was talking about a song that's on the radio so much at the moment - 30 Minute Love Affair by Paloma Faith. He said "it's amazing, the story she tells in that song actually happened". This I felt was crazy! Complete insanity to imagine that someone could think that music could potentially tell a story that didn't happen in real life. Music is surely written by people who have been out there and experienced things first hand in such a powerful way that they are then inspired to write a song to tell their side of the story to everyone. The normal music I listen to sure has - The Fray, Evanescence, Daughtry, ect - all speak of the powerful events that occurred to inspire the music that has people sobbing with empathy. Music and fiction - they just don't belong in the same sentence!

To think that in this day and age music is seen as something so cold that the story it tells didn't even happen. It's a sickening state to be in! I write classical music partly because I can't sing nor think of lyrics to save my life, but mostly because I believe that the soul doesn't speak, and therefore writing classical music gives a more vivid and direct emotional link between your heart and the music. People may feel like they can relate to popular music better - but that's just because the brain listens and processes the information better with words. True music shouldn't need any input from the brain.

I will be writing another blog when my album is finally released. If you like relaxing classical music, please follow me for updates.
