You’re abandoning me!” I burst into tears “leaving me here ages away from everyone and everything I know!”
I knew I was being silly and childish but I didn’t care. It didn’t matter that I was almost twenty, as far as I was concerned my parents were abandoning me.
They said their goodbyes, my mother gave me a rare hug and my dad had tears in his eyes but they still left. There I was sitting on a strange bed with a half unpacked suitcase in an almost intolerably bare shoe-box of a university bedroom, feeling for all the world like a newly orphaned kid.
