25 December 2012

We walk in Mr. Layner's Chemestry class and Caity whispers something to me harshly. "Pretend you don't know me. Wait- you don't know me." Then she runs off and giggles with a bunch of girls wearing too much makeup. Great. There's little stools in front of what looks like counters, and I take a seat in the corner of a room, where only one person can sit next to me. Caity doesn't aknowledge me, so I just sigh and take out my pencil. A girl I don't know sits down next to me. She doesn't say anything, so I don't, either. Ding! Ding! Ding! Everybody runs to an open seat and Mr. Layner gets up in front of the class. "We have a new student today." he announces. Seriously? I think they all know that by now! The class turns around in their stools and I blush. "Would you like to introduce yourself?" Mr. Layner asks. "Um... I'm Autumn." I mutter. "Well, hellooooo Autumn!" Mr. Layner smiles too cheerfully. Have I mentioned that I hate fake cheerfullness? "Class, say hi to Autumn." "Hi, Autumn..." The class groans. Aparently, they've been through this before. Mr. Layner directs the conversation to how vinegar reacts to some weird chemical thingy. I'm relieved when class ends. I head to my locker and find Caity at hers. "What was that about, in Mr. Layner's class?" I ask. Caity doesn't respond. "Helllllooooooo?" Still nothing. I sigh and take out my Math book, which I'll probably need in Math. Then I slam my locker shut, leaving Caity behind.

. . . . . .

Nobody bothered me in Math, or Composition. Now I'm in Gym, and it reminds me of training. "Autumn Monthler? Logan Mrandall?"Ms. Copp yells. I walk onto the mat, and a guy who looks like a jock walks up beside me. "Easy. Prepare to get your butt kicked." Logan smirks at me. We're doing boy/girl wrestling, and I've really wanted to get on the mat and take down somebody. This kid is perfect. Ms. Copp blows her whistle. Logan charges at me. Summer's Rule 1: Never go first. Logan headbutts me. I don't even flinch, just twist him around and fall on him. He cries out in pain, since I pinned his arms in an unnatural position behind his back. Summer's Rule 2: Always hold unnatural positions. The class is silent. "1...2...3..." Ms. Copp yells. Logan's face twists in pain. "8...9...10! Autumn wins!" The class cheers louder than they did for anybody else. Summer's Rule 3: Always win. I climb off the mat and Logan doesn't get up. Ms. Copp comes over and talks to Logan, then he hops up right away. I wonder what she said. "Way to go, Autumn!" Kids high-five me. Wow, I didn't think that training could ever come in handy. I was wrong! "No one has ever taken Logan down before. He's a jerk." One girl tells me. "How did you do it?" I smile and shrug. This is pretty cool. Thank you, Summer!

. . . . . .

I walk home from school with a spring in my step. Everybody was talking about me today, and not in a bad way. Aparently, if someone beats Logan Mrandall at anything, they become like a celebrity at Narwale Middle School. At lunch, my table was swarming with kids who wanted to know how me, the New Girl, beat Logan at wrestling. I never said I was a type of spy, or that I train against strong adults every day. Even with all that fame, Caity still never talked to me. "Hi, Autumn!" Kat runs up to me. I just passed the elementary school, and so Kat must've saw me walk by. "Hey, Kat," I smile. "How was your day?" "Awesome!" Kat jumps up and down. "And why was it awesome?" "I have a friend!" "Who is it?" I could care less, but Kat seems really happy about it. "Her name's Valerie. She's really cool!" "That's nice..." I mumble, not really paying attention. We arrived at our house, and Summer is outside, staring at the house acroos the street from us. "What's wrong?" I ask. "Nothing!" Kat exclaims. "Oh, not you, Kat. Summer." "Oh." Kat sighs. "Sorry." "It's okay. Summer! What's wrong?" Summer turns her head and sees us. "We have new neighbors." "Yeah?" I say. Of course we have new neighbors. We moved into this abondoned house yesterday. "No, I mean new-new. They just moved in. A minute ago."
