"We can't do this on our own." I tell Keleb in Chemestry the next day. "It's too risky!" "So? An adult will just ruin things more than they already are!" Keleb points out. "But Summer was really worried about what happened with my mom in LC that one day!" "What? What about your mom? What's LC?" "Oh, forget I said anything... we need Summer's help. Settled." "But can't she control-" "Yes! Yes, yes, I know, but that can be useful." "She didn't want to help out. How can we get her to help?" "Easy Eldonist has you, right?" "Yeah..." "Then I'll just tell her Eldonist is living right across the street and that we know the kids they're keeping captive." Ding! Ding! Ding! Everybody gets quiet. "Do you really think this is going to work?" Keleb whispers. "It has to."
. . . . . .
I finally get up enough courage to ask Summer two days later. "Hey... Summer?" I roll Kat's peanut butter cookie around in my hands. "Yes?" Summer asks, sitting down in front of me. "Ummm... you know Eldonist?" I ask. "What about Eldonist?" Summer asks harshly. Oh no. "Umm... well... You see, an Eldonist agent is living right across the street-" "WHAT?!?!" Summer yells. "THERE'S BEEN AN ELDONIST AGENT LIVING ACROSS THE STREET AND YOU NEVER TOLD ME??????!!!!" I flinch back. "Well... you see, I only found out a couple days ago, but-" "A COUPLE DAYS AGO???!! WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME???" "I didn't think of it! Hey... when we escape, there's two kids living with the Eldonist agent... And... um..." "What?!?" Summer calms down a little. "They are Kat's old step siblings." I suck in my breath for the explosion that is supossed to cone from Summer next. I wait. It never comes. "So you want them to come with us when we escape? Well, where are we escaping to?" Summer asks calmly. Wow. That was nice for a change. "I was thinking Australia... It seems safe." "Nothing bad has really happened in Australia... Okay. That's fine." "No, Summer, Australia is good because-" Wait, did Summer just say okay? Did she really just agree to this? No way! "Oh! Okay! When are we leaving, then?" "Tomorrow. After your school is over. Meet me at Lobsigner Park." Then she gets up and walks away. "Oh, wait." Summer stops. "Bring your little friends, too." Then she walks away for good. How did that just work? "Guess what, Kat!" I run into Kat's room. "What?" She looks up from her school book. "The plan worked!" I squeel. "What plan?" Kat tilts her head at me. "What plan?" Is Kat really that short minded? "The plan to go to Australia with Keleb and Tessa!" "Oh yeah! That plan! Yay! When are we leaving?" "Tomorrow. Go to Lobsigner Park after school. You know where that is, don't you?" Kat nods. "Good." I smile. I really can't believe this is working!
. . . . . .
Ding! Ding! Ding! I race to my locker and pull everything out of my locker except my textbooks and slam it shut. "Bye, Caity!" I call. "What? What? Amanda?" Caity looks around in confusion. I laugh at her, already halfway down the hallway. I stop at Keleb's locker. "Ready?" I ask. He slams it shut. "Ready." We run out together. "Where are you going?" asks a voice behind us. It's Tessa. "Lobsigner Park." Oops. We forgot to tell Tessa about that. "Oh." "We're escaping when we get there." I explain. "Oh! Well, I'm coming!" Tessa runs beside us. Since Tessa and Keleb are used to running in snow, they run really fast without any snow. I just run fast because of training. "Wait up!" a vouce squeeks behind us. It's Kat. "Oh, sorry." We slow down to Kat's speed. Finally, we make it to Lobsigner Park. Nobody's there, since school just got out. "Where's Summer?" Tessa asks, looking around. "I see her car." I point to the SUV we rented in Indianapolis. "Who's car is that?" Kat points to a different car. Tessa and Keleb look at each other, then they both turn pale. "Run!" Tessa yells. "What? Why d-" A hand clasps over my mouth. "Mm! Meemm!" I try to screem. The hand pulls me back and throws me into the unidentified car. My head snaps back and everything fades to black.
