Not as long as the first chapter. Enjoy...

Quinn rearanges her face into a forced smile. "Hello, girls. Say hi to Mr. and Mrs. Pillet." Tayla chokes out a weak "Hi." Laynie nods sharply. I stare at them, bug-eyed. They can't be the new couple! It's not possible! They tortured the girl! "Kiela...? Why don't you say hi to the Pillets?" "Mm." I mumble hi, but it sounds all muffled since I didn't open my mouth. Quinn sighs. "Excuse their rude behavior. Those girls are nothing but trouble." "Oh, that's no problem." The mom gives a tinkly laugh. The girl winces. The dad snaps his fingers. "Macin, bring the girls a dounut." The girl tenativy steps foward and opens a box. I peer inside and find some powdered dounut holes laying inside. My mouth waters, even though I just finished a huge breakfast. I glance up at the girl, Macin, and notice how tired her face looks. I whisper something in her ear, and she smiles. Then I take a dounut out, and while Macin is walking towards Tayla, I hand her the dounut. The Pillets are facing the other way, so they don't see us. Macin takes a happy bite out of her dounut as Tayla picks hers. Mrs. Pillet turns around just then. "Macin! No!" she gasps, running over to Macin and knocking the dounut out of her hand. Macin has a look of guilt plastered on her face. Poor girl. I really hope I don't get adopted by these people. Quinn doesn't let us choose if we want to go or not- if someone wants us, we go. "But why can't I eat that?" Macin frowns. "Um... Dounuts are bad for you." Mrs. Pillet tells her. "Duh! Then why are you giving them to us?" I throw out there. Macin doesn't deserve this. "Well, you girls live in an orphanage. I thought it would be a nice treat for you." Mrs. Pillet smiles a fake smile. Ugh. Macin has a worried look on her face. "So? We don't need any stupid dounuts!" I throw mine on the ground. "So next time you buy dounuts for us 'poor little orphans', remember that WE DON'T WANT THEM!!!" Then I storm out of the room and up the stairs. Laynie looks down at her dounut and throws it down, too. She follows me. Tayla looks from Quinn, to Macin, to Mrs. Pillet, and then to me. She runs after me, dounut still in hand. She runs by Quinn and throws the dounut at her. It lands straight on her nose, sending powder flying everywhere. Quinn screams. I'm dying of laughter at the top of the stairs. "Tayla! You did not just do that!" Tayla has a sheepish look on her face. "Well..." then she bursts out laughing with Laynie and me. Who knew Tayla would ever break the rules? "GIRLS!! GET DOWN HERE!!" Quinn screams. "Should we...?" Tayla asks, gesturing down the stairs. I shake my head no. "We can't get in any more trouble than we're already in." I say. "Good point..." We stay up there for a while, thinking up ideas pf what Quinn will do to us. "I feel bad." Tayla reaveals. "Why?" I ask. "Well, we just left Quinn down there with a dounut in her face," I laugh at this. "And we came back late from free time, plus we were mean to the Pillows." "Pillets." Laynie giggles. "Whatever. Don't you feel a little bad?" Tayla asks. Laynie and I look at each other. "A little." she says, as I say "Nah." at the same time. "Let's go down." Tayla begs. "Fine." I say. We trot down the stairs. I find Quinn chatting with the Pillets at the counter. I notice her face is damp. Macin is sitting next to Gabby, a forced smile on her face as Gabby blabs on about something completely random that no one wants to hear about. Poor girl. "Kiela! Laynie! Tayla!" Quinn yells at us, standing up. "No, it's okay." Mrs. Pillet tells Quinn. "She's right. I shouldn't feel sorry for orphans." I blink. What did Mrs. Pillet just say? "Huh?" "Tawn is right. We adopted Macin because we felt sorry for her-" Laynie shoots me a 'I told you so' look, referring to what she said at the café earlier today about Macin being adopted. "-but that's not how we will adopt here." Mr. Pillet tells Quinn. "Oh. Well... That's nice." Quinn says, taken aback. "We will adopt based on personality. We want to change someone for the better." Tawn Pillet continues. I gulp. This isn't going the way I wanted. "I think I know who I want. Tawn? Want to go discuss this... elsewhere?" Mr. Pillet says. "Sure." Mrs. Pillet gets up from her hard wood stool. "Excuse us." "Sure thing." Quinn answers. Mr. and Mrs. Pillet leave the room. Quinn turns to me and my friends. "What is wrong with you three?" she practically screams. "Quinn, we're sorry, we didn't mean-" Tayla starts. "Tayla! I wasn't asking you! I was asking Kiela!"Tayla slowly shrinks down. If she could dissappear, she would. "Um... Well, we were out intown, and lost track of time, and ended up coming back late. Sorry." I shrug my shoulders, trying to look innocent. "You lost track of time? Doing what, exactly? And why were you out in town?" "Well... Um... It was free time, so we went out in town... to get some fresh air." I stumble. "And what were you doing in town?" Quinn scolds. "Umm... well... we were at a café?" It ends up more like a questionthan a statement. "Oh, and you expect me to believe that! You have no money to pay for a meal." Laynie, Tayla and I exchange glances. "Kiela, your excuses keep getting worse and worse. Bathroom duty. For a month. All three of you. And no breakfast, either." Bathroom duty- yuck. No breakfast- so what? I don't eat it, anyway. "Ms. Evinich, that girl... um... Kayla- she isn't lying. I saw her at the Gloria's Café." Macin pipes up. Good girl. "Oh, yeah? And what were you doing there?" Quinn mocks Macin. I don't know why, but I feel like I need to protect Macin for some reason or another. She seems so small, helpless, even though she's the sane size as me. Maybe it's her high voice. "I was getting dounuts with my... parents." Macin spits out that last word, parents, like it's an evil word. Maybe it is. I take a good look at Macin. She has stick-straight, a little past shoulder length blond hair with natural brunnette highlights. She has soft, beady blue eyes, and has some cute freckles that make her look younger than she is. Her face is rounded and soft, which makes her look nice, not mean. Her body is slender, with a grey shirt handing limply off it. Macin has a high, squeaky voice, and she sort of reminds me of a mouse. Mousin. Quinn squints her eyes at Mousin. "So, you're telling me that..." Just then, Mr. and Mrs. Pillet come back in. Quinn looks at them. "Have you decided who you're adopting yet?" she asks. "Yes, we have." Mr. Pillet says. "Tawn? You get the honors." "We're adopting... Gabby." Yay! I won't have to live with the Pillets or Gabby anymore! Bad days have their pluses. Gabby squeels and runs over to Tawn. She gives her a tight bear hug. Tawn gets stiff when Gabby hugs her. "Get. Her. Off. Me. Now." she says through gritted teeth. Gabby pulls back, confused. "You don't like hugs?" she looks heartbroken. Mrs. Pillet shakes her head in a tight manor. "Okay then." Quinn interupts this new mother-daughter bonding moment. "I'll go get the papers, and Gabby will be your legal dau-" "But that's not all." Mr. Pillet breaks in. "We're adopting two kids." My body gets stiff. No. I look at Laynie and Tayla. They look scared, too. Hey, the Pillets could adopt someone else, like Ava or Devyn! "We've decided..." Mrs. Pillet from Mr. Pillet to Quinn and gives a half smile. It's then that I realize who their adopting. Mr. Pillet finishes Tawn's sentence. "...That we will also be adopting Kiela."
