Sorry, another short chapter.

Me, Laynie, and Tayla spend the day chatting about random stuff like we usually do. I try to keep my gaze away from the empty bag sitting at the edge of my cot. It's going to have to get packed sometime, but not now. I hear faint steps coming from outside our room and everyone gets silent. The wooden door swings open and Maicy stands there, all eyes on her. She blushes, and speed walks over to my bed, head down. "Hi." Maicy mumbles. "Hey." I say. Maicy fidgets with her hands, not looking at me. "So... Do the Pillets have any other kids, or just you? And me and Gabby, of course." "No, just us." Maicy replys. "Oh." "Don't the Pillets treat you bad, or something?" Laynie jumps in. Tayla glares at her. Maicy guiltily nods her head. "Yeah. I'm like their maid. No, slave." "What do they make you do?" "Clean. Bills. Cook. Work. Anything they can think of, they make me do it." "Wow." "Yeah, it's tough..." There's a slience, then Gabby skips over with Sofee. "Hiya, Macin!" Gabby exclaims. "Um... hi." Maicy says. "I cannot wait to go home! You're parents are spectacular!" Gabby gushes. "Not really." Maicy squints her eyes, since her parents are obviously not 'spectacular'. "In my mind, they are." Gabby replies. "Yeah, in Gabby's mind, they are!" Sofee echoes. "Yeah, sure whatever. Just... go!" Laynie shoos the two away. "That reminds me. Nycole wasn't looking for me like you said. I think you ment Nelly." "Sure, Nelly. Go find Nelly." Laynie rolls her eyes. "Nelly's waiting!" "I don't want to keep Nelly waiting any longer, so, byebye!" Gabby waves and dances off. "Bye!" Sofee follows Gabby. Maicy shakes her head. "Those girls are freaks!" "Tell me about it!" I reply. "I can't beileve that you two have to live with... that." Tayla tells me and Maicy. "Neither can I." I reply. "I bet Tawn and Vynn won't let Gabby act like that." Maicy whispers. "Why?" Laynie asks. "There used to be this girl with them... Gabby reminds me of her. Tawn and Vynn took her away, to a place called Render. They allways seem to be calling that place, talking to a guy named Logan." I gulp. "Creepy." "I know. They talk about orphanages... They talked about this one a lot before they came." "Huh. Wait... how do you know what they were talking about?" Maicy shrugs sheepishly. "When you have to work around a tiny house all day, it's hard not to overhear things." I smile. "I do that a lot, too." Tayla's eyes get wide. "You do?" "You didn't know?" I laugh. Sudently, a knock inturrupts our conversation. Quinn appears in the doorway. "Gabby, Kiela, you two are leaving in 10 minutes. Macin, go get your stuff. Now!" Maicy scrambles away, to the doorway. "Um, bye, Laynie and Tayla. It was nice meeting you." Layine waves and Tayla says bye. Maicy dissappears down the stairs. Tayla turns to me, tears forming in her eyes. "I'll miss you." she sobs. "Me, too." Laynie hugs me. "Aw, guys..." I sniff. Why am I getting so emotional? That is so not like me. I grab my little bag and pull out my belongings from under my cot. I toss some clothes into the pack, but it feels too sad. "I can't do this..." I always thought getting adopted would be amazing. I was completely wrong. "Kiela, it's OK. You'll be fine." Tayla comforts me. "No, it won't. The Pillets are mean. Did you not hear what Maicy said?" I counter, a single tear running down my cheek. "They treat their kids like a slave." "Kiela. Listen. You're strong. You don't care if you break a couple rules. It will turn out fine. And if it doesn't... Well, you have Maicy. And you can always run away back to here." Laynie suggests. "And Quinn would allow that?" I shake my head and zip my bag, fully packed now. "I don't think so." "Kiela! Gabby! Hurry up!" Quinn screams from downstairs. I look around at my home. I've lived here for about 10 years. I grew up with Laynie. All these other girls, too. Zoe... Layla... Stephy... "Bye." I whisper. I almost suffocate in a group hug. "Bye." Tayla looks at me. "See you later, Kiela. Visit anytime." Laynie pulls back. "I'll never forget you two." I cry. Then I run down the stairs before I lose it, only glancing back once to see Tayla's blond hair shaking and Laynie's big hazel eyes blinking rapidly. My two best friends. "Kiela! Are you excited to live with Tawn and Vynn Pillet?" Gabby follows me down the stairs. I ingore her. "Are you?" Still nothing. "Well, I am." We make it down the stairs and I find Maicy, Quinn, Tawn, and Vynn all waiting for us. "Girls, it's been a pleasure having you here with us at Ms. Evinich's Home for Girl's. Except maybe Kiela..." Quinn gives me the evil eye. "...But I'll miss you two." Tawn leads me, Gabby, and Maicy out of the orphanage and into a bright red Lexus. I get stuck in the middle of the backseat, between Maicy and Gabby. Vynn slides into the passenger seat and Tawn slams shut the door. She starts the engine and we pull off, leaving my old life behind.
