6 March 2013

We run in silence for a while. Maicy keeps glancing behind us for some reason- it's not like Gabby's going to pop out from a trash can with a lightsaber and slice our heads off. That would be sort of funny, though...

Anyway, we run in silence. Complete silence. Then, we see a homeless guy trying to get money. He's dressed in rags and has a long, scraggly beard. Maicy and I exchange nervous glances.

"Yo... You two ladies looking fine today... Care to give a family some dough...? You do want good Karma... Don't you, you two perrrrrty women...?" He drawls.

"Um... We don't have anything on us, right now..." Maicy mumbles.

"No! No money at all! It's not like I have 10 dollars in my pocket right now!" I nod vigorously, then suddenly stop and mentally shoot myself. Why do I have to be such a bad liar?

"Oh, well that's too baaaad... Would you call me when you have some change to spare... It would be a big help..." The hobo pulls a preppy looking card out of his bulging shirt pocket. His wobbly, dirty hand lays it in my palm.

"We have to go now! Bye!" I blurt. I grab Maicy's arm and pull her further down the alley, away from the creepy dude.

"CALL ME!" The homeless man screams at us. He sounds healthy now.

"MAYBE!" I screech back, then laugh, realizing what we just said. I look at the card in my hand. It's lamenated. Wow, spoiled hobo.

"What does it say?" Maicy asks, panting. We're at the edge of the alley now, looking onto Main Street.

"'Logan Wimms, Homeless Man. 410-844-2946' Seem homeless to you?" I raise an eyebrow.

"Uh, no!"

"Then why is he pretending to be homeless?"

"You know what people will do for money. Can you tell me where we're going now?" Maicy looks at the busy street.

"We're almost there. C'mon."

"Wait- do you even know where we are?"

I laugh. I know where we are a little too well, actually. "Yeah I do." We run along the chipped sidewalk.

I glance down a dark alley, a neon green glow coming from the end if it. I smile, remembering that that's where I first met Maicy. That was only 2 days ago... Wow.

Then I see our destination. I smile proudly, stopping. "Do you see it yet?" I ask.

"See what?" Maicy looks around, as if expecting to see her long-lost parents. Then she gasps. "Why did you come-"

"Oh, I think you know." I grin and walk up the path to the building.

"We're not spys, you know." Maicy looks at me. "How can we pull this off?"

I stop and turn around to face her. Her sea blue eyes stare straight at me, worried. "We might not." Then Continue down the path, ignoring the red Lexus parked in the driveway.

Maicy follows. I stand in front of the giant oak door looming in front of me. How will I open it unoticed?

As if reading my thoughts, Maicy shrugs. "We can't open it quietly. Let's go." She starts to turn around, but I stop her.

"Like this." I answer, a plan forming in my head. How could I have forgot the back door? We tiptoe to the back of the building, and I smile at the quiet, small glass door inviting us in. Nobody's in sight. Good.

I slowly turn the handle and push in, the door moving without a sound. "Yes!" I mouth to Maicy. She glances behind her, making sure no one's watching. I walk inside and motion that Maicy does the same. She listens, and I quietly shut the door behind us. Step one- done!

We creep down the familiar hallways, me looking around in awe. Nothing has changed... Well, it has only been two days. Maicy doesn't know the way around as well as I do, so I lead.

"We loved the architecture last time we came, so we came back to look around again." A voice says from the kitchen. Maicy and I freeze.

"Back, back!" I hiss. We scramble behind the old banister that leads upstairs.

"Well, that's nice, but I'm really busy right now, handling all these-" A different voice answers.

"Oh, we know. That's okay. We were thinking anyway that we could tour ourselves around." The first voice replies.

Maicy and I look at each other. The result can't be good.

"That would work." The second voice seems to trail off. "Just don't break anything." I remember what happened to Gabby when she broke the glass and snort. Maicy glares at me.

"Did you hear that?" A third voice asks. I silent groan.

"No... What?"

"I think it came from the hallway." Maicy's eyes grow wide, and mibe do the same.

"This way!" I mouth, and we crouch-run to a small room known as the living room. I squeeze behind the couch and Maicy squeezes behind an old, creaky grandfather's clock.

I hear footsteps. "There's no one here."

"What about the banister?"

"Nothing."

"I know I heard something..."

"Hey, can we go in the living room?" A new voice asks.

"Quietly."

Ack. I look down, hoping that if anyone comes in here, they won't see me. A little dust bunny floats by under my nose. No. No. My nose twitches a little. I can't sneeze- not now!

Some footsteps enter and I feel two people flop down on the couch. No!

My breathing gets faster. I'm about to sneeze. No, I can't! "Ah... Ah... CHOO!" I scream. Why do my sneezes have to be so loud? We're dead.

"Who's there?" One of the people on the couches calls.

Crap. I feel the people get up and wander around. "I heard something."

"IS EVERYTHING ALL RIGHT IN THERE, GIRLS?" a voice screeches from another room.

I hear some fast whispering, then, "YES!" Good. Wait, bad. No, ack!

"I think it came from behind the couch." No, not behind the couch! No one's here!

"Let's look." This is it. I can't hide. It's over.

Someone peeks behind the couch and gasps.

The other one screams.
