23 December 2012

"What?" I yell.

"The lady that attacked you and Ellie is our mother!" Summer answers again.

No way. No way!

"No way!"

"Well, yeah. And Samuel- you remember Samuel? He's our dad."

Why the heck are these bad people my parents?

"No they aren't!" I refuse to believe it.

"Oh yeah? Why does Samuel have the same color hair as me, and why does he have the same eyes as you? Why do I have that lady's nose and you have a mix of both their hair?"

It's true. Everything she said- it's true.

"Ugh!" I stand up. "Why does life have to be like this?" I'm about to run out of the training room when Sumner grabs my arm and spins me around. Her eyes sparkle.

"Stay." I do. "It would be best if you learned a little more."

"Fine." I want to cross my arms but I can't.

"Our mom is part of a terrorist group called Eldonist. They were attacking Mannicco when we got here." That makes sense. The booms, screams, and sirens echoing in the latter tunnel floods back into my head. I shudder.

"Eldonist tries to kill important people's children so that the inportant people get fustrated and mad, so they quit their job. Then an Eldonist worker takes their place, until the Eldonists rule the world."

I gape at Summer. That's so cruel! Ellie's the pope's daughter, so then that means that Eldonist probably wants to kill her.

"Ellie?" I ask.

"She's on the Eldonist's kill list. That almost happened today. Katrina got lucky that she still has her hand."

"Katrina?" Who's Katrina?

"Oh, yes. I forgot to tell you. Katrina is Ellie's real name."

What???! Why is everything changing today?

"So... Should we tell El- I mean Katrina her real name?"

"We can. Do you want to see her?"

"Yes!" I about run out of the training room, but then I realize I'm still locked in Summer's gaze. "Can we go now?"

"Yeah. Follow me." Summer walks into the big main hallway and I follow. We pass a ton of doors, computers, and people. I think we walk for about 10 minutes. By the time Summer turns to a door, the room has emptied out a bit.

"Hey Summer?" I ask.

"Yes?"

"How did our mom get into my room?"

Summer pauses as if thinking. "Eldonist got into LC by hacking, and they hacked their way into your hallway, too. Since our mom- her name's Lia, by the way- has some of your blood in her, she got into your room with the blood fingerprint tester."

Oh, that makes sense. But- "Wait- if Eldonist hacked it's way into LC, doesn't that mean that they can hack their way in now?"

"Well, um... yes. But we're working on that, so no worries." Summer pulls open the door and we walk in. It's the medical room, and a bunch of beeping heart moniters, doctors, and testing machines greet me. I flinch at the sound.

"Katrina Uewn." Summer tells a lady behind a desk.

"Bed 23." she answers.

We walk past a bunch of beds with curtains around them, then find one that has a sign with the number 23 hanging on the curtain. Summer pulls it aside.

Laying there is Ellie, with a bunch of tubes wires strapped to her wrist. There's gauze tape around it, too. She perks up when she sees us.

"Autumn!" Ellie squeels.

"Ellie!" I run over to her.

"You mean Katrina." Summer says. I look at Ellie.

"That's your name." I say. "Katrina."

"Oh yeah." Ellie looks up thoughtfully. "Meow." she says.

"What?"

"Meow!" I look at Summer, who just shrugs.

"Why are you meowing?" I ask.

"I like cats. Meow. I'm cat."

"Umm... Okay?" This is getting weird. Hey, that's what I get for becoming friends with a 7 year old!

"Call me cat!"

"Oh! Okay... Cat?"

"Yeah!" Ellie- I mean Cat- smiles.

I look at Summer. "I think she means Kat. K-A-T. As in a nickname for Katrina." Summer answers the question I was asking in my head.

"Ohhh." I say.

Just then I hear a giant boom.

"Eldonist!" someone yells.
