I stare at Ellie as she sobs. The Pope's daughter. Wow. Since I'm from the United States, I don't really know a lot about Popes, but I still know that he's a huge figure. I also know that they got a new Pope in the past couple years.
I'm really confused on how Ellie ended up in the Alps if she's the Pope's daughter. I guess that sort of explains why Summer and LC didn't take Keleb and Tessa, just Ellie.
Unless Tessa and Keleb are Ellie's real brother and sister.
Ellie finishes crying after a while. I find this a good time to ask her about all she's been through and explain some stuff.
"Ellie?"
She looks up. "Uh huh?"
"How did you end up in the Alps and with Tessa and Keleb?"
Ellie sniffs and wipes her nose. "I remember a bunch of people running around, screaming. They were falling. There were bright lights and big booms. I was really scared. Then a guy came and pushed me into a big loud thingy. He closed the door and we started flying.
"I think we went straight to the hills, I'm not sure. All I know is that we flew down and he told me to get out. I did. He said I'd know what to do, then he flew away. I was scared. I walked around, and two kids came out and asked who I was. I told them I was Ellie, since I like that name. They told me to come inside. I lived with them."
I nod. "The kids were Tessa and Keleb, right?" Ellie nods. I think about what she said. Loud booms, bright lights, and people were screaming and falling. They must've been terrorists. I bet the guy in the flying thing was told to get Ellie away from the terrorists. I wonder when this happened. I think a little more, then it hits me. "Wait, you said you told Keleb and Tessa that your name was Ellie because that's your favorite name?" Ellie nods. "That means... Ellie isn't your real name?" Ellie nods.
"I don't know my real name. I forget it." Well, this is helpful. I ponder what she said some more. Bright lights. Loud noises. People running around. Scared.
"Were you scared when you entered LC?"
"El- what?"
"LC. This place." I gesture around. Ellie nods.
"That woman with sparkling eyes scares me." she whimpers.
I sigh. Should I tell Ellie/different-name/Pope's daughter? Yes.
"That woman's name is Summer. She's... special. She always gets her way. Whenever yoy refuse to do something, close your eyes. If Summer's eyes sparkle, then you have to do what she says."
Ellie crinkles her eyebrows. "Why?"
"Summer is... different. Some scientists did some... bad tests on her, and it... did that. It made her-um..." How much should I give away? "It made her control minds."
Ellie gasps. No, I shouldn't have said that! "Well that's not fair! I wanna control minds!"
"Ellie, no, don't be scared, it's-" I stop. Wait, did Ellie just say what I thought she said? "What?"
"I wanna control minds!!" She jumps on her bed. Wow. This kid is really positive, even when she might be scarred for life. "Can you control people's minds?"
I laugh. "No, why do you think that?"
"Cause I though you were the mean lady's sister! That's what they told me!"
I freeze. They told her I was Summer's sister? She would learn that eventually, but I didn't think so soon.
"No. Well, yes, I am the mean lady's sister, but I can't control minds. I was going to have those same tests that Summer had, but these bad people came and killed my parents. Summer is 20 years older than me, so she became my guardian."
Ellie doesn't seem to mind that my parents died. "Who were the bad people? Couldn't mean lady control their minds?"
I stop. Huh. Why didn't Summer try to stop the people? I actually don't know if they were bad people. I honestly don't even know if Summer is a good guy or a bad guy. Same with LC.
"I don't know." I yawn. I sudently realize how tired I am. I just slept in the helicopter, but a lot has happened since then. "Let's sleep now. Come on." I pat Ellie's bed and she slips in. I hug her and turn off the lights. Yawning, I climb into my own bed and drift off into a deep sleep.
